Great News!

2020-06-17 01:17:50

Del Rio,

First the good news! You made your voice heard! Today the city council lifted restrictions on both allowing sports and leagues to continue, as well as the conditional opening of the creek! (Albeit partial opening).

The water ways of the creek are now open for it's citizens to rightfully enjoy! Unfortunately, there were some restrictions kept, such as not using the playgrounds, grills, equipment, no alcohol; but there is nothing stopping families from bringing their own food to the creek and cooling off in the hot summer sun! It's a start!

None of this is was possible without your support! For your record the opposing councilmembers to this partial creek re-opening were Salgado and Garza. The rest of the Council voted in favor!

Special shout to out Councilman DeReus for again moving to remove all restrictions. As well as to councilmembers Ojeda and our city mayor for also voting in favor of this motion. Unfortunately the lifting of all restrictions didn't carry but the partial reopening did!

Thank your councilmembers that voted in favor and be smart, stay safe, wash your hands, practice social distancing where you can and most of all, enjoy your creek! Well done Council and well done Del Rio!

Quick update Del Rio!

Thanks to your voice and signatures, Del Rio began accepting garage sales and again issuing permits on 06.12.2020! Well done!

As long as we voice our opinion, our elected representatives need to listen and take actions along with what the people are asking!

A quick copy and paste of this petition on your timeline goes a LONG way! Let's get the restrictions completely lifted and go back to enjoying the freedoms that are rightfully ours!

Stay smart. Be safe. Wash your hands, and keep your distance where you can! Del Rio Strong!

Updates!

2020-06-10 13:28:19

Good Morning Del Rio,

First, the good news! Previously, even walking along the creek from 10AM - 5PM was prohibited by the city ordinance; however yesterday Councilman Garza made a motion to remove those hourly restrictions so citizens could perform essential activities during the day. It was put to a vote and passed! This was undoubtedly influenced by your signatures and support in making our city council aware of it's citizens concerns!

Second, unfortunately the city council voted to extend the restrictions of not allowing it's citizens to utilize the actual creek for another TWO weeks. Big shout out to Councilman Dereus for making a motion to remove those restrictions and the Mayor for providing a second to that motion. A few council members seemed to be on the fence about supporting that motion, but ultimately decided against it. So what next?

Citizens should be allowed for themselves whether they want to use our own parks and creek, or if they elect to stay home. That decision should NOT be made for them. We are capable of deciding for ourselves and don't need to be told when we can or cannot utilize the parks our tax dollars paid for!

We are re-opening the petition to allow for more signatures! In just three days, we garnered 133 signatures! Imagine what we can do in a week or two weeks! Copy the link address below and post it on your social media feed! It takes a few seconds and you would be amazed how many signatures each share can bring!

Lastly, we would like to make clear that just because we want the freedom to decide for ourselves, doesn't make us bad people. We can have freedoms and still be responsible. If you feel sick, stay home. When you're out, do your best to social distance, wash your hands, use hand santizing products, and have good hygiene in general. Stay safe and stay strong Del Rio!

Good Evening,

The petition has been submitted to the Del Rio City Council and Mayor via email. We were contacted by the Del Rio News Herald inquiring about the petition, and a representative was included in that email for visibility that the petition was in fact sent to council members and the mayor.

It is our hope that the city council takes action on these matters. A huge thank you to everyone that took time out of their day to make their voice heard. Be safe! Stay Strong Del Rio!
