A Call for the Discontinuation of Xarelto

The Goal. To increase people’s awareness of the harmful side effects of Xarelto.

The Problem. Xarelto has become a household name for families with members who have suffered from strokes or have undergone heart surgery. Xarelto is an anticoagulant that is often prescribed by physicians to their patients who suffer from atrial fibrillation. The drug is formulated to have blood thinning properties that are essential to avoid abnormal blood clotting or pulmonary embolism.

The sad reality for patients taking this drug is that there are many side effects that go with Xarelto. Spinal hematomas, internal bleeding, and heart attacks are just some of them. The worst case for a patient taking this drug is to die from the use of Xarelto. It’s also important to note that the drug doesn’t have a proven antidote which means death could be inevitable when excessive bleeding happens.

The Solution. Until now, there is no known antidote to Xarelto. Sure, the FDA approved an antidote back, in May 2018 but it’s too early to conclude that the antidote is safe and proven effective. There is no certainty that the antidote can reverse uncontrolled bleeding.

The health and well-being of patients should be the top concern of manufacturers and distributors. The FDA should impose a ban on Xarelto until a proven antidote is discovered. At the same time, the government should protect people’s health and their rights to a fair trial if in case they file a lawsuit against Xarelto.
