Save the Danish National Chamber Orchestra

The Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DBC) has announced that it will shut down the Danish National Chamber Orchestra (DNCO) on January 1st 2015 due to budget cuts. The DNCO employs 42 musicians as well as the artistic team working with them.

In Denmark, the DNCO is mostly known for its groundbreaking work in bridging the gap between classical and popular music. Under the direction of their world-famous chief conductor Adam Fischer the DNCO has, in the last 15 years, also gained international acclaim for its stellar recording of Mozart’s complete symphonies, a feat accomplished only by a handful of orchestras in the world. They have also recorded several Mozart operas, which, among other distinctions, have been awarded “Recording of the Month” by the British Gramophone.

Reviews of the Mozart Symphonies:

“You can imagine the composer smiling in approval.” (Gramophone)

“Adam Fischer and the fabulous DNCO give the most breathtaking recordings obtainable nowadays of the Mozart Symphonies. Sensational!” (Wiener Zeitung)

“This is like the dream Mozart-symphonies set” (BBC 3)

The DNCO have also been invited to play at major music festivals around the world.

Apart from the evident disaster of the musicians losing their jobs, the loss of the DNCO would be catastrophic not only for Denmark's cultural life, but the loss of their unique playing style would be a deplorable loss for the world of classical music in general.

With your signature, you are strongly urging the board of directors of the DBC and the Danish Ministry of Culture to find a solution so that the DNCO can continue to bring classical music to audiences across the world.

Apparently, it takes no more than one budget meeting and three months to shut down a high quality orchestra, thank you for helping us preserve it!
