BGKV SCHOOL CLASS X PARENT'S PETITION

BGKV Kolkata, Salt Lake
Petition from Class X Parent's Forum
Dated: 11-Feb-2021

We have received a notification from the school on 8-Feb-21 declaring that the school
will be conducting a second pre-board examination for students of Class X who are
appearing for CBSE Class X Board Exams scheduled from May 2021. Later when
parents pointed out as to why the school has not requested parent's consent as per
current government directives, a mail was sent on 10-Feb-21 with the proposed
second pre-board exam notice and date sheet. This time the notice had a rather
arbitrary consent section where the school has chosen to state that it does not wish
to take any responsibility of any consequences. We assume the school does not wish
to be accountable in case there is any COVID-19 cases reported among students
during or immediately after the exam.

As parents we would like to draw your urgent attention to the following:

1. We are quite concerned that the school did not follow the government directive
in creating awareness among parents/guardians towards the steps taken by the
school to ensure COVID-19 sanitization protocols followed by BGKV. Most other
schools are doing this with all rigor.

2. The school has already completed admission formalities for Class Xl and allotted
subject streams to students and accepted the initial admission fee. So, what is
the actual objective of this exam, other than practice, is there any consequence
of this exam on the admission process or issuance of admit cards? Please
categorically clarify this.

3.Other schools have opted to conduct the second pre-board exam on both offline
and online mode and students and parents have been allowed to choose the
preferable option. Why BGKV has taken such a unilateral decision on this critical
matter without consulting the parents?

While practice is always welcome, we need to be cognizant of the risks of the
infection and logically weigh the pros and cons and decide whether it's in the
best interest of our children to risk a CoVID infection at this stage and jeopardies
their actual board exams. With all due respect Madam, the risk of infection is very much present and we have seen what has happened when schools were
opened in some other states.

4. We petition to the school:

a) Declare the proposed second pre-board exams optional.

b) Postpone the dates to March 2021 so that students can adjust their study routine to prepare for the exam and mentally tune themselves. We do not want the school to create a sudden panic and disrupt their preparations.

c) To immediately convene an online meeting with parents and guardians to explain the steps taken by the school in terms of complete sanitization of premises including furniture, fixtures and lab equipment etc. Also, how it intends to ensure students and staff continue to follow COVID-19 norms over the next one or two quarters, after which it can be reviewed based on circumstance prevailing at that point of time. We would like to cooperate with the school authorities as we, parents and guardians, have always done. However, the school needs to view us as partners in its endeavors, be transparent and make us part of its policy making processes. Only then we partake in the success of the school and all the students who are part of it. Looking forward to your urgent cooperation.
