Puțurile minei Petrila se pot utiliza și în construirea unui sistem de încălzire centralizată a localități,i pe baza pompelor de căldură. Se folosește astfel energia termică a apelor subterane. Deci o parte din construcțiile miniere se pot reabilita si pot avea și folosințe economice.
