Remained loyal to socialism and the Communist Party until his death, Lukács is known as one of the most significant Marxists of the 20th century. The Lukács Archives cannot be closed down!

I am a biographer. Archival material is essential if we are to learn from history, to understand the motivation, achievements and mistakes of those who went before us. It seems extraordinary that the Hungarian Academy of Science should contemplate closing this unique and valuable resource.

I am a professor at University of Toronto (Canada) who has great respect for Lukacs' philosophical work.

I signed because Lukács's work is an important part of our intellectual history. If you censor his ideas, you only show that you have no valid argument against them.

Because I have known for years about Lukács' legacy and I believe that there should be open access to all personal archives according to the owner's own wishes or 30 years after his death.

Lukacs is a great philosopher and critic, and is central to the intellectual history of the 20th century.

Lukacs is not only a major figure of Hungarian civilization. He is a towering figure whose work and legacy is of fundamental global significance, more so one imagines at a time like ours when political disorientation affects both workers and intellectuals.

Closing the Lukács Archives is a crime to the entire human civilization and to the fight for universal human emancipation to which Lukács dedicated all his life and theoretical work

I have been at the archives twice and had invaluable support and help. I consider it a criminal act to close down this valuable site. I do research relating to Lukacs and critical theory, and would like to visit also in the future. Please reconsider.

While I despise Stalinism, I nonetheless know that we need to keep the archives as an important part of history.

Closing knowledge resources is a repugnant act to me.

I am in principle against closing any archive because that prevents understanding of history, and the work of historians; this particular archive is also important to understand Hungarian history and resistance, not to mention GL's importance for Western and critical philosophical traditions. I hope that the closing will be carefully reconsidered and this rash decision reverted.
