I believe it is important that history, as taught in schools and documented in literature, be truthful and accurate.

My family are native of West Cork and particularly Skibereen and surrounding areas and having studied Irish history am fully aware of the "facts" as published but people need to be aware of the truth behind so called facts.

Several branches of my family were forced to leave their homes during this time.

Famine implies an "act of God", no guilt on any party. There are better ways to describe what happened.

So few know the truth so it must be told

We are told so much about genocide in Africa, the cruel way people were treated. There is no difference in this treatment, than by what was done by the English to the Irish during the potato blight.

Because the genocide that occurred in Ireland needs to be public knowledge.

Because it is important to finally recognize this tragedy for what it was, a deliberate act of the British to use this natural catastrophe to reach a final solution to the Irish problem. It is not without precedent in the history of the British Government. The brutal clearance of Scottish Highlands, the slaughter of the indigenous peoples of Africa and India are fine example of British largesse.

Everyone should know what exactly happened at that time..........

Because the relentless linguistic sanitization of atrocities is deplorable.

Because I know the story and think the rest of the world should also. It has been hidden under the wrong name for long enough.

It is about time that the truth be told. Two million of our people did not die because of the potato blight. I was through systematic rounding up of all our resources, Fish, Dairy, livestock and vegetables. They didn't eat grass because they like it, they ate it because they where STARVED To DEATH... The young children of the world are taught about Germany's and Hitler's Genocide, now they will be taught about England's Whore Trevelyan. As said '' effective mechanism of reducing surplus population" as he spoke about our loved ones. May he rot in HELL.

The idea that Irish history was changed and the population was decimated solely by a potato famine is disengenuous to the subsequent descendents of the survivors. For the largest European catastrophe pre 20th century the details, art, poetry, songs and books are surprisingly scarce.

If there was a Famine in Ireland in 1845-1850 does that mean there was absolutely nothing grew in Ireland? How come the British Crown removed ships loaded with food from Ireland? Why did the British navy try and prevent ships loaded with food docking in Ireland? The ships were sent by Sultan Khaleefah Abdul- Majid his ships docked in Drogheda and the town adopted the Star and Crescent as the towns Emblem.
Why do people keep saying Famine or Great Hunger it was Genocide?
