I have always suspected that the "Famine" was the result of ineptitude - or even genocidal intent - on the part of our colonial masters. Interestingly enough, a standard, scholarly work on this grim
period of our history, published 4 decades ago, is entitled "The Great Hunger" by Cecil Woodham-Smith.

For too long it has been the British version of history and the truth about what happened has been swept under the carpet!

There was enough food in Ireland to feed the population of Ireland. The food was shipped out of the country under armed guard to be sold for profit. Purposely starving a whole country is murder, not "famine."

To get people talking about about what really happened in Ireland in 1845.

History has become factually inaccurate.

This is utter nonsense. Of course it was a famine!

Really? Great Britain didn't exist 800 years ago. Read a book.

Don't be so f**king st*pid. Do you seriously think you can confescate someone else's property and redestribute it? It wasn't the fault of the larger, more prosperous farmers of Ireland that peasant bred like rabbits and relied on potatoes.

Glad to sign. Why? Because the truth these days, can and does depend on who teaches, edits or sanitises the truth rather than those telling and passing down the generations what really happened to their own.

The oppressors wrote false history. The truth should be told.

Because it is true, the Irish people are not the only race that British imperialsm tried to wipe out, but we were the first. It's terrible that since we have achieved 'partial' independence our government has helped the British sides version our our sad but proud history.

Because the truth should be told not a fabrication of the facts.... Irish slavery existed.. there was no famine just food been taken out of the country.. yes there was a blight that caused the spuds to rot... But food was plentiful... Just not for the poor

The truth needs to be told, the atrocities from England need to be let known.

I am a descendant of an orphan girl and knew only about the famine. I would like this story confirmed.

Because it's time the truth was out there, there was no famine the government just stood back and watched as hole communitys, family's and friends all died at the way side while the British government ordered their troops to gather and collect the nutritional food for themselves knowing what was happening in Ireland

My DNA shows me to be around 75% Irish. I can trace family back to Ireland.
