Petition to Address Persistent Water Leaks and Corroded Pipelines in Ward 39

Pipe_Water2.jpg

We, the residents of Germiston, Ward 39, formally petition the City of Ekurhuleni, in particular, the City Manager, Dr Imogen Mashazi, to take immediate action to resolve the ongoing water leaks caused by corroded pipelines. Water leaks in our community are being temporarily repaired, only for the same issue to reoccur due to the severe deterioration of the water infrastructure. The current patchwork approach is unsustainable, leading to continuous water wastage, service interruptions, and unnecessary repair costs.

We call upon Ekurhuleni Municipality to:

(1) Conduct a full assessment of the water pipeline infrastructure to determine the extent of corrosion throughout Germiston.

(2) Develop and publicly share plan for replacing and upgrading the failing pipes.

(3) Allocate necessary resources for permanent solutions instead of short-term repairs.

Reliable access to water is a human right, and the continued neglect of this issue is unacceptable. We urge the responsible authorities to take immediate and decisive action to ensure a sustainable water supply for all residents.
