Petition to Rand Water on Constant Water Outages in Ward 36 and 92

We the residents of Ward 36 and 92 in the City of Ekurhuleni herewith petition Rand Water over the constant water outages in the area as well as the lack of communication/ feedback on the said water outages. According to section 27(1)(b) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 (the Constitution), the supreme law of South Africa, everyone has the right to have access to 'sufficient' water. Hilltop/ChurchHill Reservoir and Northridge Reservoir constantly have low/ or no water supply. These reservoirs are key water points that supply water to the following areas, namely, Dawnview, Sunnyridge, Sunnyrock, Symhurst, Fishershill, Gerdview, Homestead, and Solheim(which are considered "high-lying areas"). The residents in Ward 36 and 92 urgently request that Rand Water provides a long-term solution to the water outages experienced in the area by maintaining pump stations and ensuring adequate back-up power supply during power outages and loadshedding. The residents furthermore request that water levels at reservoirs are regularly monitored in the area and that communications be sent out timeously from Rand Water to officials in the City of Ekurhuleni, so that communications are sent out timeously and water points/ tankers are set up in preparation for water outages.
