PETITION TO REQUEST THE EXECUTIVE MAYOR AND MMC OF FINANCE TO PRIORITISE INFRASTRUCTURAL UPGRADES AND BASIC SERVICE DELIVERY IN WARD 28 IN THE UPCOMING BUDGET
We, the undersigned residents of Ward 28 Benoni, petition the Executive Mayor, Ald. Nkosindiphile Xhakaza and the MMC for Finance, Ald. Jongizizwe Dlabathi to prioritise infrastructural upgrades and basic service delivery in the ward, in the upcoming Budget. Despite contributing significantly to the City's revenue balance and boasting a high collection rate, Ward 28 consistently lags behind in terms of service delivery and infrastructure development.
Our ward deserves recognition for its hard-earned revenue and commitment to the City's well-being. It is unacceptable that we do not receive prioritization in both OPEX (Operating Expenditure) and CAPEX (Capital Expenditure) budgets, despite our substantial contributions. We, the residents of Ward 28, urge the City to address the following pressing needs:
Infrastructure Upgrades: ·
- Replacement of water and sewage pipes; ·
- Upgrades to storm water systems; ·
- Upgrades to power cables, substations, transformers, and mini substations; ·
- Resurfacing of roads; and ·
- Upgrade of streetlights to reduce energy consumption
Basic Services:
- Cleaning of storm water drains;
- Maintenance of parks and open spaces (grass cutting, tree maintenance, etc.);
- Filling of potholes;
- Replacement of road signs;
- Painting of streets;
- Repair of street lights;
- Fixing of traffic lights; and
- Proper maintenance of City properties
We believe it is unfair that we are forced to beg for the basic services we deserve, despite our commitment to the City's revenue. It is essential that our ward receives the attention and resources it requires to thrive. We, the residents of Ward 28, request that the City consider our petition and allocate sufficient funds to address our pressing needs. We look forward to a positive response and a commitment to inclusive and equitable service delivery.
