Weston Fire Station Closure. Weston N.S.W Australia

I am originally from Weston and have seen the village under threat from fire many times. To close the Weston fire station would be a dangerous and illogical decision.

(Bolwarra Heights, 2016-12-21)

#2

As the the auther says the amount of fires that we have around here the need for this Fire ststion to be kept open is paramount to the safety to resident of this community, just seems that the so called do gooders just want to close every thing down in Weston

(Weston /NSW, 2016-12-21)

#3

I grew up in Weston and it would be a shame if they closed Weston fire station as it has been there for a long time

(Cessnock, 2016-12-21)

#5

As a long time Weston resident, and having seen alot of our local services close, we do NOT need to lose the fire station too, someone is gonna die one of these days because there is nothing local, then how would people feel

(Weston, 2016-12-21)

#7

They should be updating the station not closing it

(Weston, 2016-12-22)

#8

I grew up in Weston and the fire brigade was and still is a valuable part of the community.

(Gillieston Heights, 2016-12-22)

#10

I know a lot of the homes in that area are very old my grandmother was raised up there she got married in 1912. I feel the time factor could make a difference , My grandfather William Watkins was a volunteer at Abermain about 65years ago.

(Corrimal NSW, 2016-12-22)

#11

Worried at time it would take Weston firefighters to go to Abermain and return to fight a fire if Weston station was closed. Recently we've had huge bushfires and Station 497 was invaluable in the efforts fighting the blazes.

(Weston , 2016-12-22)

#13

I come from Weston it is my home town my Father drove the fire truck for many years in light of the fires that occur in Westo it should remain open how long will it take to get a truck from Abermain to Weston if a house is on fire

(North Albury, 2016-12-24)

#14

They are a necessity and we need them. :)

(Weston , 2016-12-24)

#15

I believe that Weston Fire Station should stay open as there are lots of times we need Fire Fighters to a scene quickly and when Weston is alerted they arrive at the scene very quick. I've seen some houses/properties/cars in the street/etc on fire and if the Firies had to come from further away it would be too late. We, that is, Weston really need Weston Fire Station to stay open!

(Weston, 2016-12-28)

#20

It's simply absurd to think that Weston firehouse is superfluous.

(Weston , 2017-01-09)

#21

Its a joke wanting to close the 497 fire station by the time our weston Recruit get through the traffic to get to abermain it will be all to late with any fire especially house fires .. Or when the fourth and kline sreet bridges go under with floods.. weston 497 needs to stay open

(Weston, 2017-01-09)

#24

As a former member of 497. The response time from Abermain could be the meaning between life and death in the Weston, Sawyers Gully area if 497 wasn't to turn out!

(East Maitland, 2017-01-09)

#25

My home town nearly lost home 2 weeks ago

(Weston , 2017-01-09)

#26

Need as many we can get and is already there so why close it they helped save so many properties not that long ago seriously

(Cessnock , 2017-01-09)

#27

Weston and surrounds are constantly growing, add that to the numerous deliberately lit fires each year, we absolutely can not afford to lose this invaluable resource.

(Abermain, 2017-01-09)

#29

Closing this facility will put the people of Weston in danger

(Weston , 2017-01-09)

#38

As another local pointed out 5mins is everything. We won't have 5mins if there isa fire in Weston and the nearest station is either Abermain or Kurri Kurri. This townis expanding so it makes sense that infrastructure should match it.

(Weston, 2017-01-09)

#39

Concerned what a possible closer would mean for an imcreasing population in the area. Also if we are having to rely on trucks coming from Abermain what happens when Chinamans hollow floods again with no other immediate access if there was an incident what happens to homes of people in Weston.

(Weston, 2017-01-09)

#40

My family all live in Weston and they deserve to have a fire station close by!

(Maryland, 2017-01-09)

#43

I believe we need Weston fire station given the fire area we live in

(Neath, 2017-01-09)

#45

As a Weston resident I feel having the 497 station is a necessity to ensure rapid response to the township of Weston and greater areas e.g. Sawyers Gully when needed. The Abermain station would not be able to provide as timely a response and would potentially be impeded by any road closures through Chinaman's Hollow, be that flood or accident/traffic related.

(Weston, 2017-01-09)

#46

Due to family & friends living in surrounding areas & the amount of fires of late within that area. It is a definite need & will save lives!

(Seaham, 2017-01-10)

#52

After trying to get home from Cessnock through Weston from work a few years back, it was the Weston team who was able to contain and control the fire so people could return back to Newcastle safely.

(Belmont, 2017-01-10)

#56

We need to keep Weston Fire Station open due to all the bush that surrounds the town and to support other stations in surrounding areas.

(Kearsley , 2017-01-11)

#57

What if kurri or abermain are busy the closest one is either Cessnock or one in the maitland region or if not further away

(Weston, 2017-01-11)

#59

I grew up in weston

(Cessnock , 2017-01-11)

#60

This area is in need of Weston staying a stand alone station. As the area grows the need to cover ground will intensify. Our lives are st risk if the station closes. Look at the fires in the past month. Our lives matter.

(Kurri kurri, 2017-01-11)

#62

I have family that have lived in the area their whole lives and rely on quick response times

(Upper Coomera, 2017-01-11)

#63

Please keep this station open after the recent serious fires in the area they have saved many houses

(Weston, 2017-01-11)

#66

After the recent fires all those areas need on th spot help

(Raymond terrace, 2017-01-11)

#69

Weston needs a fire station especially when you take into consideration all the fires we have had in this area

(Kurri Kurri , 2017-01-11)

#71

With the recent fires how is shutting down stations going to help us?

(Cessnock, 2017-01-11)

#73

We really need this fire station to stay open,
with the amount of fires that have been happening lately it's stupid to shut this fire station down

(Kurri Kurri , 2017-01-11)

#75

You don't close fireststions

(Wangi Wangi , 2017-01-11)

#78

We can't afford to loose it after all the fires we have yearly it's not worth closing it down people lives are at stake

(Woy woy, 2017-01-11)

#86

I have family living in Weston we all need s good fire station

(Tarro, 2017-01-11)

#87

we are in a high bush fire area as well as a reasonably larege community and removing the fire station will leave a hole in services when there are multiple fires.

(Kurri Kurri, 2017-01-11)

#88

We need all the fire stations we can get especially in these out lying areas. Just look at the recent firres we had and how vital they were. Don't let them just be a statistic in this governments latest penny pinching, at the risk of lives.

(Elizabeth Beach, 2017-01-11)

#89

With the influx of people moving into our area there is definitely a need for Weston Fire station to remain open.

(Kurri Kurri , 2017-01-11)

#93

I'm a fire fighter

(kurri kurri, 2017-01-11)

#94

I live in weston

(Weston, 2017-01-11)

#95

These stations need to stay opened.

(Newcastle , 2017-01-11)

#96

I'm signing to save our fire station. It is part of our community.

(Weston, 2017-01-11)

#98

It is vital to have small brigades to stay operational as there is all a call out for more trucks and firefighters to save live and properties. My family are fire fighters the more we have the less lives and houses are lost. Vital part of small communities.

(Millfield , 2017-01-11)

#99

We need Weston Fire Station to stay open.

(Abermain , 2017-01-11)

#103

I'm signing because I lived in Weston for over 37 years & still own a house there. The population of the area has grown considerably since the opening of the Hunter Expressway & with this new housing as well as thick surrounding bushland & overgrown vegetation in the creek that winds through the middle of the town that will never be cleared due to "Greenies" & the temptation for undesirables to light it, the Weston fire Station needs to stay for the safety of the people of Weston.

(Cameron Park, 2017-01-11)

#104

I'm from Weston. We need this station

(Weston , 2017-01-11)

#106

About a month and a half ago we had a major bush fire in cessnock so many people and homes were at risk I believe if this fire station was to close we would not have the response time that is needed I believe they were one of the first ones scene here and iam so grateful as my family was at risk...so as a mother of two I beg and pleed with you don't shut this fire station down

(Cessnock, 2017-01-11)

#108

We need as many fire stations as possible, in all regions, NOT less!

(Tarro, 2017-01-11)

#119

We need to keep

(Newcastle, 2017-01-11)

#121

It's ridiculous they want to close it. There are so many fires around weston that need them all the time. That extra 10 seconds from abermain could cost some one there house or life

(Weston, 2017-01-11)

#122

This is a needed community service.

(Budgewoi , 2017-01-11)

#127

We live in an area surrounded by bushland, why would closing a fire station down even be considered? Stupid if you ask me...

(Kurri Kurri, 2017-01-11)

#130

They are so important to our community

(Weston, 2017-01-11)

#131

The closing of Weston fire station is outrageous given the unfortunate amount of fires we have in these areas.
It is a necessity to keep this Fire station open.

(Lambs Valley, 2017-01-11)

#135

It of the utmost importance that all rural areas have much needed help in case of fire emergency

(Newcastle, 2017-01-11)

#137

I live in weston they should be upgrading this fire station not closing it down

(Weston , 2017-01-11)

#145

Closing a station that is vital to the community is never a good idea. If there is a death because the response time is drastically changed do you want to be held accountable? I think not

(Cardiff south, 2017-01-12)

#149

We need this fire station to stay open. Closing would be a disaster for the people of Weston

(Salamander Bay, 2017-01-12)

#150

Because it is so needed

(Weston, 2017-01-12)

#152

I was a resident of weston for 10yrs and the amount of times that fires were deliberately started in weston is not good and now you want to close the station there will be more chance that someone will lose their home

(Gorokan , 2017-01-12)

(Lake Macquarie , 2017-01-12)

(BELLBIRD HEIGHTS, 2017-01-12)

#158

As a storm chaser of the hunter valley and a fire live stream reporter, I used this fire station to get info from their Facebook and other media to let people be aware of the dangers for fires in the Weston area. Close this station down and there goes another avenue to protect homes and save lives.

(Newcastle, 2017-01-12)

#159

We need all the RFS to be available due to the amount of bushfires we have in the Cessnock council areas. Please don't close this down.

(Buchanan , 2017-01-12)

(Weston, 2017-01-12)

#178

497 should stay

(Weston , 2017-01-12)

#180

If s fire came near our place we would be relying on Westin fire crew as would all the surrounding areas

(Sayers Gully, 2017-01-12)

#181

The fire station needs to stay open with summers getting warmer there will be more fires

(Swansea, 2017-01-12)

(nsw, 2017-01-12)

#186

(Kurri Kurri , 2017-01-12)

#187

There's too many fire stations being downsized it's wrong

(Maitland, 2017-01-12)

#188

Closing a fire station is stupid, shut council but not the firies! The job they do is essential

(Ashtonfield , 2017-01-12)

#189

The town needs its own fire station

(Weston , 2017-01-12)
