I am a student that is finding great success at this school and love the community and staff

(Belleville, 2017-05-16)

#3

I am a graduate, a parent and a former staff member. This school is rich in diversity and is the only high school servicing the growing east end of Belleville. The final report issued by HPEDSB is short sited and does not take into account financial losses that will happen as a result of closure.

It's MY kids education at stake!

(Roslin, 2017-05-16)

My daughter is in IB Foundations and I would like to see this option still offered. The school is in a great location and it makes much more sense to me to have a secondary school in the east and west end of the city rather than one in the west and one on the centre. Our capacity is at 78% vs Quinte at 55%. There is huge elementary implications as Queen Elizabeth and Harry J Clarke are busting at the seams. As a Moira graduate (with attendance hovering around 1,000 students) I feel Moira could facilitate a merge with Quinte. Better yet, find alternative ways to fill more to capacity. The Catholic schools are thriving and it is absolutely not for religious reasons that families are switching to the Catholic board.

My oldest daughter attended Moira for destinations and now is grade 9 foundations. (And my youngest will be attending in fall in the Destinations program. )
She has grown so much as a result of these program and the cultural diversity of Moira, more consideration is needed before this decision is made.
It makes more sense to have schools in the east and west end of Belleville then in the middle. The east is still growing with planned housing developments.
Why give parents who are not Catholic reasons to send there kids to the separate school board. This is going to be the result of this...just ask the kids!

13 years ago my husband and I bought our first home in the Moira and Harry J Clarke school district so our kids could go to these schools. Our daughter will be attending Moira in the fall and it makes me sad to see this school close. Please keep it open. There are a lot of new houses being built on the same street as Moira.

Losing another high school in the east end of Belleville is not what this city needs.

(Belleville , 2017-05-16)

#22

There will be no high school in the east end at all if Moira closes.

(Belleville, 2017-05-16)

(Belleville , 2017-05-16)

#25

I am a graduate and don't agree that closing this school will benefit anyone in the east end of Belleville

(Belleville, 2017-05-16)

#26

It effects support staff jobs and also effects the community in that area.

I went to Moira for 3years after transferring from Centennial. I have lived in the east end my whole life, went to Harry J Clark, and spend most of my highschool career at Moira. Being at a school in the east end, while living walking distance from the school, allowed me to participate in school sports, extracurricular after school events, and have a part time job. I have 2 little sisters who currently go to Moira, and I'm worried that if they have to be shipped across town to a different school, they will miss out on the opportunity to to things like sports and have a job. With many parents unable to pick up their kids after school for sports or other things, some students will not be able to participate as their only way home is a bus. Taking away the only high school in the east end is an insanely stupid idea.

(Belleville, 2017-05-16)

#34

I am both a graduate of MSS and a former French teacher there. I strongly feel that a public high school be open and accessible to the students in Belleville's East end as well as to the communities east of Belleville that Moira now serves.

(Belleville, 2017-05-16)

#35

I am a graduate of Moira 1972 . My children have attended as well. The school location in a quiet residential part of Belleville is wonderful as well close access to other facilities like the YMCA for extended physical activity educational pursuits that add to Moira's football rugby field and other hymns for indoor classes. . The small community feel makes high school less intimidating. I am sure their are physical upgrades needed particularly an air conditioning component but I believe that keeping our school is much more cost effective then abandoning it to move students or to build another .

(TMT, 2017-05-16)

#39

My son attends Harry J Clark. He is about to go into grade 9in September. This is the only school in the east end, where we live. We specifically moved close to Moira to make it easier for him to attend. We need more schools, not less. This happened to us when we lived in Oshawa. It only created chaos. Too many students and not enough one on one with teachers creates a lack of interest for the children. Please reconsider this school.

(Belleville, 2017-05-16)

#41

There needs to be a public high school in the east end of Belleville. My kids commute would be unrealistic for a special needs child

(Belleville, 2017-05-16)

#43

It is a wonderful school and a very important part of the positive fabric of Belleville

(Middletown, 2017-05-16)

#47

I attended Moira and think it's important to have a high school remain in the east end of Belleville. Why bus students across town when there is a school already near them.

(Belleville , 2017-05-16)

#48

East end resident. My child will be entering high school fall 2018. If you close this school what's your plans for transportation for all students living in East end Belleville? What supports will you have for our children crammed into larger classes etc? Please don't close Moira Secondary!

(Belleville, 2017-05-16)

#49

Keep our school! The east end of Belleville has many students in this area and the outer east end. With the east end developing more why are we shoving all our kids to a central school. This will make longer bus rides, us to one hour for some kids to get to school. The school boards great idea is that Quinte gets more students no worries shove them outside in trailers to learn! Save our school!

(Belleville, 2017-05-16)

#51

My son attends Moira my other son is going in September! We purchased our home knowing our kids elementary and high school would be close by, my daughter is being uprooted from Queen Victoria and now Moira too! This is absolutely ridiculous and our family is at the point of moving to another city if these schools close!

(Belleville , 2017-05-16)

#52

I went to Moira and it was a fantastic high school. The school is so important for the indigenous community as well the students in the east end and elsewhere.

(Toronto, 2017-05-16)

#53

I do not believe you should close Moira until you have funding. It is detrimental to a student's well being and mental health to PLAN 3 moves - elementary to highschool, Moira to Quinte and to a new school at a vulnerable time in their life when the focus should be on preparing them for higher education/workforce. Please give this a sober second thought.

(Shannonville, 2017-05-16)

#55

I went to this school many years ago and I have read a lot of the reasons that other people are writing and I fully agree with them.

(Belleville, 2017-05-16)

#56

My kids have always wanted to attend Moria Secondary School when they graduated grade 8.

(Belleville , 2017-05-16)

#58

The proposed school closure threatens my daughters education. If the school closes what happens to the IB program? My daughter attends MSS. Mackenzie first attended MSS grade 7 and 8 destinations and now thriving in grade 9 foundations. My daughter has been told since grade 6 that she is a perfect fit for the IB program, she has spent almost 3 years preparing and giving it 100%.

(Belleville, 2017-05-16)

#59

This is the school my daughter's father's family went to, and someday, I want her to have the choice of going there too.

(Foxboro, 2017-05-16)

#60

my son is in grade 7 this year, he should be going to Moria for grade 9. We are going to apply for the the Life Skills and Practical learning programs. How is this going to impact students like him.

(Belleville , 2017-05-16)

#62

Moira did wonderous things for my son. He discovered his career in Television through the programs at Moira. He is still working in that field. Thank you Moira

(Trenton , 2017-05-16)

#65

We need a local east end school .
Not kids on buses for hours a day

(belleville, 2017-05-16)

#66

My son goes to this school and my other son will be going in the fall and my daughter will soon be going. We bought our house because of it's close proximity to all three schools they all went to. Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth and Moira which will all be closing. If thats the case we will sell our home and move out of this city. The school board has done a very good job at pissing off parents and disrupting everyones lives to the point they will leave the community for good. Someone has to be lining there pockets on this idea for who in their right mind would try to do so much in such a short period of time. I say follow the money trail and it will lead to the weasel or weasels at the root of this hole insane idea.

(Belleville, 2017-05-16)

#72

I went to Moira and it needs to stay! We need to stop making these huge schools that effect the one on one time with teachers!

(Kingston, 2017-05-16)

#73

That's the school I went to and graduated from.

(Deseronto, 2017-05-16)

#74

Im an alumni from moira and i loved the school.

(Hamilton, 2017-05-16)

#82

I'm signing because I'm a student of Moira Secondary School and I do not agree with what they have planned. Moving us to Quinte will not save as much money as they think it will. It will also unjustly throw off students and teachers. Keeping students where they are until they build the new school would be the most logical decision.

(Belleville , 2017-05-17)

#83

I truly believe that Moira deserves to remain open for a number of reasons. Our diverse culture, unique programs, and conveniently located grounds makes for an excellent school which congregates an extremely diverse crowd. Our school itself is the sole school in the eastern part of Belleville, close to the reserve and a multitude of residential sub-divisions. The uniquely offered programs, teams, and clubs conjoint our entire school together, like a community, which is extremely rare for schools.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#85

I am a current student at Moira currently in my fifth year in the building(including destinations) and the closure of this school will create an enourmous impact on the community and students and kill many of the unique programming that Moira is able to offer.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#87

I am signing this petition because I am currently a student in the International Baccalaureate program at Moira Secondary School. Although I will be graduating next school year, and will be able to do so at Moira, I am unable to stress the extent to which Moira Secondary School is the ideal home to the IB program. If the different sectors of the IB program (Destinations, Foundations, and IB) are separated, the fluidity of the program that allows students be able to utilize their IB profile of a learner traits to the maximum extent, would be lost. It would be a shame to see this happen, as I, myself, was lucky enough to take advantage of this wonderful program.

(RR2 Picton, 2017-05-17)

#88

Moira deserves to stay open!

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#89

I am signing because I know that Moira has much more to offer than what people know and that it should not be the school that is shut down. Moira is an extremely diverse school and welcomes every student no matter their ethnicity. There are plenty of programs and clubs held in Moira that would be immensley effected by the proposition to close this school. The largest number of mohawk students attend Moira, they will be greatly effected by the decision to close Moira because of the distance they will have travel to go to school everyday. Moira and the community around itl will suffer more consequences compared to Quinte, if it is the school that will be shut down.

(Belleville , 2017-05-17)

#90

I don't want my son to have to switch schools in his final 2 years of high school and I work there.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#92

I want to keep the school opened.

(Belleville , 2017-05-17)

#97

My daughter is Native and in the IB program currently at Moria it would be a loss for her in many ways

(Deseronto , 2017-05-17)

#100

Many friends of mine went to this school. It is a school that is definitely needed in the East end of Belleville.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#103

I am a student at Moira, and I disagree with the planned closure of MSS because I believe that the diverse student body and community atmosphere make our school unique and an essential part of Belleville and the surrounding area. I am concerned about the seemingly sudden decision to close our school and I take issue with the lack of information about future transitions and program availability that has been made accessible to students, limiting our ability to prepare for our own futures. I believe that something needs to be done, and Moira's student body is not content to let this plan move forward without alternations and further explanation.

I wish for my daughter to not be moved potentially 3 times of her 4 years of secondary school. Truly believe that it makes more sense to have schools on each end of town not central and west. Think of the students who are bused from out of town come from farther east.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#125

My daughter attends

(Cherry Valley, 2017-05-17)

#126

I've been at Moira for the last 5 years. At first, I didn't want to go because I didn't think that I would fit in with the people, or like any of the teachers. I had told my parents that I want out as soon as possible, but, as my first semester went on. I made some of the best friends in my life, I've met some of the best teachers that I've ever had the privilege to be taught by, and learn life lessons from. I want Moira to stay open, because more students need the opportunity to stay here at this school and to be able to have the same support system that I had. I started out as a troublesome student, but certain individuals at this school gave me a reason to change, gave me a new purpose in life. Keep this school open to give other students a chance at success.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#127

I attend Moira for their IB program and I do not want the school to close.

(Trenton, 2017-05-17)

#130

It affects our family!

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#131

I am a resident who went to high school there as did my children. I also have a younger neice and nephew who SHOULD go there. Don't transport children any further than need be. Quintie is the "middle" of the city!!!!

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#132

This was high school I attended. For the kids on East end of town, it's more convenient for them. Not to mention all the subdivisions around the school.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#135

My child goes there and absolutely loves the school. Moira was the only high school I enjoyed going to as well

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#136

I was a student here many years ago and My daughter will be starting here in the fall. We need this school in the east end for many reasons!!!!

More than just a school this place is home

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#138

I have children that are in the Moira school area

(Bellevilee, 2017-05-17)

#139

I went to this highschool, and it was the best in Belleville, the most welcoming and there were some great teachers. Made some life long friends there. It would be a complete shame to have that experience terminated for others

(toronto, 2017-05-17)

#140

I have many friends who go to Moira and I would hate to see such a large school have to be split up.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#143

My high school, great school if I had to go anywhere else things have been bad. Locally located, great staff and overall a wonderful school.
Plus maroom/burgundy and grey far more appealling /calming/than greens, yellows etc

(Belleville , 2017-05-17)

#149

I'm signing because my sister and my dad work at Moira and they don't deserve to be ripped away from everything they've ever known. My sister has wanted to go to Moira her whole life and did everything in her power to attend Moira. She deserves to stay there

(Quinte West , 2017-05-17)

#151

My child is attending the foundations, destinations,IB program at Moira as we live east of the city in Tyendinaga township we feel that having this school remain open is a great advantage to our child do to travel time and proximity of the other schools being considered for student relocation.

Also the economy is surely to be affected in a negative way obviously due to the fact of removing 800 students from the area, real estate values will decrease young families will no longer be looking in the area as a viable location due to a lack of public/high school in the area also new development of subdivisions will likely be cancelled as well.

All in all this school closure will do nothing but have a negative impact on the local economy and most importantly the students who may be uprooted from possibly not one but several times in order for the school board to accomplish it's goals as outlined in the meeting held at Moira on May 15 2017, which may result in added stress to the students due to a lack of being able to form long lasting social friendships and lack of being able to connect with there teachers on an education level.

#152

Belleville kids need all of our schools. Lets put priority on education where is should be our main focus. Our future relies on it.

(belleville, 2017-05-17)

#155

I'm signing because closing Moira Secondary will have devastating effects on my son Connor who has autism, our family because of the financial, mental and emotional trauma that will occur when Connor hard earned comfort at Moira is taken away and his absolute breakdown and inability to transition to Quinte. This proposed closure and transfer to an environment that has so many students and overwhelming stimuli will be devastating for any individual with autism, ADD, ADHD, sensory disorder or sensory sensitivity. This kind of environmental overload will be detrimental to so many more students than you can imagine. For the stidents first, their families second and for our community third, Moira Secondary needs to stay open!

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#156

Closing Moira will put undue hardship on Indigenous students who already face barriers when transitioning to off reserve schools.

(Napanee, 2017-05-17)

#157

Belleville population requires a high school in the east end. The government is wrong about the numbers and ignoring the actual accurate number given them.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#167

My daughter is going to the Destinations program beginning Sept. 2017 which is held at MSS.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#170

I'm signing because I feel our education system is failing us again. We have enough problems especially with teens they needs a school close to them. Closing all these schools are only going to cause more issues for parents, then teachers.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#172

The school needs to stay open and continue serving the educational needs of the children of that community!!!

(Roslin, 2017-05-17)

#173

My son attends this school and it really is a community at this school.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#174

I went to this high school and it would be very uupsetting to see it gone

I went to Moira SS and now I have two grandchildren who attend there

(Belleville , 2017-05-17)

my friends and I worked too hard for too long to add numerous championship banners to the rafters of that gymnasium. I wanna see our legacy live on.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

Graduated from MSS in 1995. Great memories and a great education from MSS. It's important to help serve the east end of Belleville.

(Milwaukee, WI, 2017-05-17)

#183

The east end needs a highschool.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#185

Moira was my home for 4 years. It's important to keep moira open and educate the east end community.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#186

I'm signing because my children will not have a school in the east end of Belleville if you remove Moira.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#189

My youngest son goes there and he would have to travel to the other side of town. Many families would be affected by the closure.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#190

I was a Moira student from 2003-2008 coming from a long line of family members that also attended Moira SS.

As a Mohawk of the Bay of Quinte it is very important to me to see an educational facility that offers the roots of my culture, tradition and language through its curriculum and also by representing my culture through the Mohawk Student Council. Moira has always been the high school of choice for many Aboriginal youth for exactly those reasons.

I was also a part of Moira Athletics playing many varsity sports. The sports at Moira are unlike those at any other school. The athletics brings students, family and the community together in such an incredible way that offers a real sense of homage and community.

Moira is also the only school in the East end of Belleville. Closing the doors of this school would be a mistake felt by a vast community.

Keep the spirit alive

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#191

This School hosts one of the best atmosphere's in Belleville located in a great area. The History and First Nations relationship builds students to become some of the most successful, respectful and ethical people in society. It would be a mistake to see this school be closed. everyone who graduated and leaves this school will tell you this. Trojan Pride. Trojan til i die.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#192

I am a graduate of Moira, I have a son currently in grade 10 at Moira, and I have a daughter who should be attending Moira in the fall of 2018. We choose to live in the east end so that we would be in this school district and so that our children would not have to spend any unnecessary time on a school bus. Moira is surrounded by a very populated residential area that I am sure other parents choose as home for the same reason. I really believe that Moira should remain open so that the city has both a school in the east and west end. Concerns should not be based on how quickly our children can get to work after school, instead they should be focused on their education and the great programs that are offered (Moira offers Aboriginal Language, IB Program, HOPE, Special Education etc).

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#193

Moira Secondary School is an exceptionally positive, life-giving hub of student and community activity, impacting Belleville and beyond in positive ways.

The care and guidance of its staff combined with countless hours of personal volunteer time on their behalf have shaped more than one incredible generation of students who go on to impact our communities in positive ways for years to come.

(Belleville , 2017-05-17)

#194

As a parent and an employee we need to keep this school open!

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#195

I do believe that a high school in the East end of Belleville is critical to have in place. Serves many great purposes.

(Trenton, 2017-05-17)

#197

There is a legacy here at Moira. The students and teachers are some of the most respectful people here in Belleville. With the Mohawk Rez right by the school, it makes it the most convienient location for those individuals. I personally have graduated from Moira and continue to hangout with friends that I have made there. With the sports program, we made history there. This school has so much history behind it and taking it down would only destroy the legacy created.

(Belleville, 2017-05-17)

#198

I went to this school and just recently graduated. Our generation made a legacy there through sports and being leaders of the community. I made all of my best friends at Moira who I continue to hangout with to this day. Living on the east side of Belleville made me feel like Moira was what I represent and what I honour. The teachers at Moira are excellent and have helped me become the man I am today. Also, Moira is conveniently located for student who live on the reservation which is essential. If Moira were to be closed I would be very heavy hearted as it as an institution is a very big part of my life.

(Belleville , 2017-05-17)
