Extend the Upfield Bike Path to Upfield

Comments

#1

This is a matter of social equity of investing in sustainable transport options for people in lower socio-economic northern suburbs of Melbourne who are trapped in car dependancy due to the poor public transport and cycling infrastructure.

(Fawkner, 2018-04-27)

#2

Walking and Cycling infrastructure is desperately needed into and through Campbellfield to provide safe, convenient routes.

(Craigieburn, 2018-04-27)

#3

Pedestrian and cycle transport options are necessary in this area to provide reasonable alternatives to driving for local residents, and augment public transport. This would encourage a healthier and more active community, as well as release pressure on local roads and improve safety for those already cycling or walking the route.

The majority of Melbourne's rail lines have a rail trail spanning the entire length, there is no reason the upfield line should not get the same treatment.

(Fawkner, 2018-04-27)

#6

Cycling is primary form of transportation and recreation. The Upfield bike path petering out well before Upfield has been a source of frustration and danger for me for years.

(Brunswick West, 2018-04-27)

#7

For too long cycling and active transport has been underfunded. With a projected population of 7m, Victoria needs to realise that its current levels of car dependency won’t scale, which we’re already seeing.

(Melbourne, 2018-04-27)

#9

Equitable access to transport options is a must for a modern city like Melbourne. The lack of safe cycling and shared use facilities in this part of Melbourne's north severely restricts access to community facilities for those who get around by bicycle, by mobility scooter, and by foot. It is a barrier to participation in active transport for many people who feel they have no choice but to drive everywhere.

The state government has a responsibility to provide safe infrastructure for all road users. Currently this is not happening.

(Pascoe Vale, 2018-04-27)

#10

We need it!

(PASCOE VALE, 2018-04-27)

#13

It is important to have proper infrastructure for safe active transport

(Coburg, 2018-04-27)

#16

Active transport like cycling is good for human health and reduces carbon emissions so is also good for the planet. We need much more cycle friendly transport infrastructure. Imagine if we spent 10% of the road budget on cycling specific works, what a positive change that would make.

(Glenroy, 2018-04-27)

#25

This pathway is vital for the safety of bike riders rather than risk riding on Sydney Road as the vehicular traffic is excessive.
The pathway should have been constructed as part of the removal of the Camp Road Railway level crossing.

(Melbourne , 2018-04-27)

#29

Is very important for our cycleclist and the environment.

(Melbourne, 2018-04-27)

#30

It's ridiculous that a modern city doesn't prioritise including bike and pedestrian infrastructure when building major projects. The fact that in order to ride up the footpath on Sydney Road to keep riding north is horrendous.

(Melbourne , 2018-04-27)

#32

I'm signing because there needs to be an extended bike path to Upfield. I also protest that the bridge with path over the Ring Road has been locked off, preventing bike or foot traffic.

(Coburg, 2018-04-27)

#33

I'm amazed at what we did on roads. Cycling is better than driving - better for the user, cheaper for the community. The government has an obligation to make the cycling option feasible

(Fawkner, 2018-04-27)

#34

I support a better alternative transport network.

(Melbourne, 2018-04-28)

#36

The Upfield bike path will help to improve the health and wellbeing of residents in Hume by providing a safe cycling route to Moreland and Melbourne for work and leisure.

(Coolaroo, 2018-04-28)

#37

As a daily comuter I know the importance of this sort of infrastructure for cyclists.

(Narre Warren , 2018-04-28)

#46

It makes sense to have bike paths it takes pressure off the road networks and provides a safer option for cyclist and if it's the Upfield bike path shouldn't it go to Upfield. I find it disappointing that this sort of infrastructure can be delivered for other suburbs but the Northern side of town seems to be ignored by the State Government I wonder is it because it's a safe Labor seat and is that the problem we should be addressing

(Coolaroo, 2018-04-28)

#48

1. The Upfield path is an idiotic dead-end begging for a through-connection to the North.
2. The Ring Road is a monstrous barrier.

(Brunswick, 2018-04-29)

#49

Campbellfield residents have complained for a number of years regarding the lack of bus services, particularly during the weekend. I feel that the residents of Campbellfield and surrounding areas would benefit from having a continuous bike path along the Upfield line.

(Melbourne, 2018-04-29)

#52

This really is a desperately needed piece of infrastructure.

(Essendon, 2018-04-29)

#53

I don't want to be killed riding along Sydney road.

(Fitzroy, 2018-04-29)

#54

I am signing because its a healthy sign of a nation and we must support healthy activities among community.

(Melbourne, 2018-04-29)

#55

A longer path would reduce car trips by encouraging cycling to work and provide an additional stretch of easy riding for families.

(Coburg, 2018-04-29)

#56

I use the Upfield Bike Path and I want it upgraded and extended.

(Coburg, 2018-04-30)

#58

We should do our best to provide other means of transport along existing corridors, to free up roads and rail for those who have no alternative.

(Kensington, 2018-04-30)

#61

The Upfield bike path is a major cycling corridor. It gets a lot of use at the southern end, so let's extend it to the north to encourage cycling as a way of getting around our city and to help get more cars off the road.

(Brunswick East, 2018-04-30)

#64

I would use path to commute and stay fit

(Fawkner , 2018-04-30)

#66

Because it should have already been done

(Melbourne, 2018-05-01)

#70

It shouldn't be compulsory to drive in order to get to Campbellfield - or to anywhere else. We need viable public transport & active transport options to travel anywhere in Victoria.

(Brunswick, 2018-05-01)

#72

Good bike infrastructure is critical to keeping melbourne liveable.

(Coburg, 2018-05-01)

#73

It’s obviously necessary! Plant some trees along there too please. It’s so barren and hot

(Fawkner, 2018-05-02)

#74

I’m not a great cyclist, but I love it. Even I will go ‘take the long route’ to use a bike path. Please extend the route.

(Melbourne , 2018-05-04)

#80

I ride up and down the upfield path and the merri creek track with my kids but am totally and utterly scared to ride near Sydney road so always drive when we need to go to Campbellfield. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to be a cyclist living out there.

(Melbourne, 2018-05-10)

#83

When living in Fawkner I rode to work using the upfield path everyday and often with my children to coburg primary. Now I’ve moved to dallas, we are less likely to ride as I don’t like riding on the road with children. Please extend the path.

(Dallas, 2018-05-13)

#86

The approach to the level crossing removal is at best poor and illogical.

(Melbourne, 2018-06-03)

#87

Cyclists deserve a safe alternate to riding on Sydney Road.

(Craigieburn , 2018-06-03)

#88

I used to ride from West Footscray to Campbellfield and could have done with this. So many near death experience on Sydney Rd.

(West Footscray, 2018-06-03)

#89

getting more people cycling/walking & catching public transport is essential for health & wellbeing & to make or city function better.

(melbourne, 2018-06-03)

#91

There is no transport investment more cost effective and climate friendly than bike paths. Nobrainer.

(Brunswick , 2018-06-03)

#93

The current path is well used but is not keeping up with demand.

(Melbourne, 2018-06-03)

#95

I'm sick of the lack of active transport infrastructure

(Northcote, 2018-06-03)

#96

It's so dangerous, cycling the roads to Campbell field and beyond.

(Fawkner, 2018-06-03)

#98

Live in Hadfield and walk down the upfield path to fawlkner station. It's an important connector for the communities

(Moreland , 2018-06-03)

#100

I'm signing because I am a cyclist and believe in sustainable active transport- its good for your health and better for the environment. Please support us to ride in safe places. Thanks

(Coburg, 2018-06-03)

#107

I support cycle friendly infrastructure

(Epping, 2021-01-22)

#108

It would assist safe cycling in the north.

(Melbourne , 2021-05-18)

#109

I really don't like riding the last section up Sydney Road from Gowrie Station to the Ring Road.

(Brunswick, 2021-06-13)

#111

We live in Dallas and regularly access brunswick by train, but would love the option to rise

(Dallas, 2022-08-25)
