Comments

#203

The hawker centers nowadays are so much more commercialised and capitalise that it loses the frangrance and flavour of what it was like.

(Singapore , 2018-10-22)

#204

The social enterprise model for hawker centres has failed miserably, Its objectives of providing cheap (not "so-called affordable as this is very subjective) and fairly good food are are just talk only. With the excessive charges and conditions imposed on hawkers, the whole scheme is distasteful and disastrous. Scrap it and return to status quo! Let us Singaporeans, be it hawkers and patrons have just reasonable food without all the fanfare. We are already drowned in deep water with the high indirect taxes and cost of living.

(Singapore, 2018-10-22)

#205

I am for the running of hawker centres by the individual owners who can customise their food operation according to their strength and ability. So that they are not controlled by such management who take a cut from their earnings thus raising costs to all patrons.

(Singapore, 2018-10-22)

#207

It's ridiculous to earn from the poor this kind of monies

(Singapore , 2018-10-22)

#214

Hawkers are the backbone of our food culture. They need all the help they can get. They are providing a service that has evolved as a Singaporean culture as much as an indispensable service to all. Some may make big, but most just get by. Regardless theirs is a backbreaking blood sweat and tears undertaking that should not be envied. They need help. All should chip in. Most of all G must do all it can to help.

(Singapore , 2018-10-22)

#215

Social enterprise with no social conscience.

(singapore, 2018-10-22)

#217

They must stop all these monopoly for they own people to suck the hawker hard earn monies. I try to open a small hawker stall to sell peanut cake, but they charge me for disheswashing, renral of cash registers. I told them, i don't need it. They told me not to apply...... what can I say ....... Singaporean open up your eye & see !

(Singapore, 2018-10-22)

#220

Keep the hawker culture alive. These social enterprises are killing them. Imagine all the hard work the hawkers have to endure. Social enterprise just collect their money.
This is ridiculous !!!

To protect hawker's interest
Stop exploitation in name of "social enterprise"

(Singapore, 2018-10-22)

#227

This SEHC is simply bull-shit since 3rd party is running the show and nobody do it for free!

(Singapore, 2018-10-22)

#228

I use to be a hawker and it's tough life. I use to rent a stall at Chinatown at $1700 a month and already find it very hard to make ends meets. Can't imagine having to pay 4 to 5k a month.

(Singapore , 2018-10-22)

#234

To protect hawkers earnings so that hawker culture can be preserved.

(Singapore, 2018-10-22)

#235

I'm for fair treatment, reasonable prices for consumers and fair profits for sellers.

(Singapore, 2018-10-22)

#239

I observed that tge objectives of the social enterprise model of hawker centres are nit met, contrary to claims made by NEA without concrete data given.

(Singapore, 2018-10-23)

#240

Just let hawker centers be run the old-school way

(Singapore, 2018-10-23)

#242

Because I do not believe in an additional level to inject the costs to both the Hawkers and the consumers.

(singapore, 2018-10-23)

#243

Keep our hawker food affordable. Should go back to the time-tested arrangement to have NEA manage the hawker centres. Stop colluding with private businesses to impose implicit taxes on the people.

(Singapore, 2018-10-23)

#244

From the beginning, i already told my family and friends this is a scam. Whenever a middleman is involved, the costs just increase and gets passed to the common man who in this case are the Hawkers and average sinkie. Those is just a form of rent seeking dressed up as a social cause. In other words, modern feudalism. Our government knows this.

(Singapore, 2018-10-23)

#248

It don’t seems that the hawker are being sandwiched in between and it resulted in them running with much higher costs which makes it unsustainable/disadvantageous for them

(Singapore , 2018-10-23)

#254

I am Pissed with the Current System & policies which as escalated the high cost of living.

(Singapore, 2018-10-23)

There are already many airconditioned food courts out there in shopping malls. Do not confused yourself between Hawker Centres & food courts! Hawker Centres are simply not food courts! Please do not messed up our Hawker Centre Culture!

(Singapore, 2018-10-23)

#273

My parents are hawkers and I support this.

(Singapore, 2018-10-23)

#275

Sick of our govt, why must they do all these to honest and hardworking citizen trying to make a living

(Singapore, 2018-10-23)

#276

There is no need for the middlemen to hive off the profits and to increase the cost chain. Do away with so called “social enterprise” immediately. NEA should contract directly with the Hawkers if it is sincere to keep cost of hawker food down.

(Singapore , 2018-10-23)

#280

It’s wolf in disguise as social.

(Singapore, 2018-10-23)

#283

I’m signing this because I care about our hawkers and our precious culinary cultural heritage.

(Singapore , 2018-10-23)

(Sgp, 2018-10-24)

#302

I hate exploitation of the hard working hawkers

(Singa, 2018-10-24)

#306

NEA should run the hawker centres directly. It has been 3 years, so time to stop tweaking and fine-tuning. The SEHC experiment has failed, so have the courage to admit it and take corrective actions.

(Singapore, 2018-10-24)

#307

These social enterprise are all out to make profit from the hawkers, and still expect the hawkers to sell their foods cheap!

(Singapore , 2018-10-24)

#308

Our hawker culture and people must be seriously protected for many generation to come, not explored by big business organisation!

(Singapore , 2018-10-24)

#309

#FuckThePAP!

(Singapore , 2018-10-24)

#310

Food hawkers are hard working and decent people trying to make decent living. The actions of these Social Enterprise are simply for profit. It should not be privatized and hawker should come direct management of the country's relevant agency

(Singapore, 2018-10-24)

#313

This "social" enterprise is unfairly skewed where the management benefits and the hawkers lose out. This is worse than a normal hawker centre, and to think they have the nerve to call it a "social" enterprise! Pfft! Another disguise to exploit the masses.

(Singapore , 2018-10-24)

#316

It is Not right... Why NEA pushed away responsibity.

(Singapore , 2018-10-24)

(Singapore, 2018-10-25)

#330

I want a real affordable tasty hawker foods like back in the '80.

(sengkang , 2018-10-25)

#331

Poorly conceived profit-making enterprises hidden behind the label social enterprise. All the systems proposed by these social enterprises showed no improvement to the traditional system which worked well for both the hawkers and their customers all these years. Worst, as social enterprises, they showed no understanding nor compassion towards these hawkers who are their direct customers. Hawkers are left with little choice but to sign up to be part of a system which they had no full comprehenshion of the legality nor understanding of the untested and ill concieved new systems imposed upon them. These new operators themselves badly needed a course to understand the meaning of a social enterprise.
Stop exploiting our hawkers.

(Singapore, 2018-10-25)

#338

Do not monopolize, leave it for free play.

(Singapore, 2018-10-25)

#341

It's a sham...

(Singapore, 2018-10-26)

#343

The so-called "social enterprises" are actually unnecessary middlemen who owe their existence to the largesse their patrons. They add to the cost of the final product, much to the detriment of customers.

(Singapore, 2018-10-27)

#346

Please do away my with these hypocritcal and useless centers. Nothing but a bunch of greedy people out to make money.

(Songapore, 2018-10-28)

#348

I don't believe in 'bloat' - added layers of supported/followers to feed.

(Singapore, 2018-10-28)

#357

Hawker food is a basic commodity in Singapore and a way of life with many depending on it on a daily basis. Prices of it have gone through the roof over the last few years and should be curtailed. But how can they when the landlords that own these food courts and hawker centres are concerned primarily on the bottom line? This situation isn't going to improve as old hawkers retire and close down due to high rents and the children only see a bleak future of trying to make ends meet when most of the profit go toward rent.

Even government run food courts that have a monopoly of the food courts around Singapore constantly put up the rent. This is an outrageous and sad state of affairs and something has to be done to curb this.

(SINGAPORE, 2018-11-01)

#358

Govt agencies and ministries are increasingly mindless and incompetent in managing change - adopting a "hands-off, heads-out" governance culture.

(Sing, 2018-11-02)

#363

We need to reduce SINGAPORES " COST OF LIVING ".!!! Instead, our government owned companies keep increasing COSTS to boost their profits. This is definitely not right and must be stopped immediately...
.

(Singapore, 2018-11-07)

#367

I m signing bcoz nowadays the operators who renting out the stalls to the poor hawkers high rental n additional to high rental they charge other high maintenance fees to the hawkers. These hawker operators hb lost their ethic n humanity. Hawker centres shd b managed by the govt sectors n renting out cheap to the poor hawkers who are mainly jobless n hv experience in cooking or working as cooks before n wanted to set up their own business.
