The Norwegian Institute in Athens must survive! It’s a hub for researchers and students who focus on Mediterranean and European history as well as on a multitude of other subjects. If it is closed down, Norway will be deprived of an important entrance to a wider academic and cultural world. We need to understand the European part of our history in order to be able to pass it on to others. We need the Norwegian Institute in Athens! Please sign and disseminate this petition!

The Norwegian Institute plays an important role for our understanding of the past and for guiding our lives today. Appreciation of history and culture is a global concern for all of us.

It would be a disaster to close the Norwegian Institute in Athens, both for the scholarly environment in Norway, but also for Norway's international collaborations in Greece and the eastern Mediterranean.

Serious research and eduction about classical Greece have been and will always be of the greatest importance if we wish to understand history, literature, religion, art and politics. The Nordic countries may be small, but we have a great and long tradition in the field of classical research. The Norwegian Institute has proved to be very active among Athenian institutions, and offers many interesting courses and seminars to students and researchers. Being there matters, so I hope the Norwegian authorities came to their senses, just as the Swedish government did some years ago when all three Swedish Mediterranean institutes faced closure.

I am one of the lucky students who spent some time at the institute in Athens, and I can honestly say it was an invaluable experience.
The chance to study ancient history, art, archaeology and philisophy on site is something I think everyone should have.

The Norwegian Institute at Athens serves as a nexus for sharing cultural, historical, and prehistoric discoveries by its own citizens and scholars with others interested in current or past life in Greece.

Det norska institutet gör ett otroligt arbete för en liten sumna pengar. Väl nedlagt kan det svårligen ersättas.

Ikke la den instrumentelle fornuften ødelegge en av de få kulturinstitusjonene Norge kan være stolt over!!!

The NIA is a vital research center in the international academic community of Athens that provides crucial resources for scholars and students. I have been involved in the NIA in various capacities over the years, as a speaker, a participant in international conferences, and meeting with student groups. It would be a shame to see it underfunded or closed. Many foreign institutes in Greece receive public funding in addition to funding from numerous partner institutions. The NIA should receive the same broad support for its important work as a link between Norway, Greece, and an international community of scholars, students, and an interested public.

In times of fake news and scepticism towards experts, it's ignorant and short-sighted to consider closing down well-establish, important institutes that contribute to science and international relationships.

I am a Greek Archaeologist and I am used to study in the archaeological libraries and attending lectures and conferences in the facilities of the foreign archaeological schools in Athens. Therefore I would not like it if some of those cease to exist!
