I strongly believe we need to be on the same page for this. I can definitely say something in this matter because I am currently teaching on school campus and it is extremely difficult to teach. Yes, the students are happier to be on campus, but they are not able to keep their masks on correctly. Also, it’s hard to teach through a mask. We have to remind them to wash their hands, keep 6 feet apart. I can keep going...

I'm signing this petition because it is critical that the MOU be extended so employees can feel safe and assured that it will be safe upon returning to our school sites.

I think that February is too soon to return schools for anyone. The county has more COVID cases than ever and they are expected to get higher through the holiday season. There is no way that teachers or any school staff should be forced back to school sites before the pandemic is under control.

Shelby Mann (Glendale, 2020-12-13)

It is not safe for anyone to return to school with the current surge from Thanksgiving and undoubtedly the coming winter holidays. Please help protect our staff, students and their families.

Burbank has already shut down for the rest of the school year. Just this week, Temple city has completely closed down their campuses and does not even allow any members staff, faculty, nor students to enter any campuses district wide.

Katie Li (La Canada, 2020-12-13)

I feel strongly about keeping everyone safe. Safety is our guiding light, and nothing is more important.

Ken Lee (Los Angeles, 2020-12-13)

#228

I'm signing because I want to show my support to all.

Rebecca Montoya (Montebello , 2020-12-13)

#234

I’m signing because I stand with our students, my colleagues, and our community on the emphasis on safety during this time of unprecedented risk. With our hospitals and our medical workers overwhelmed with record numbers of individuals afflicted by COVID-19 and related illnesses, now is hardly the time to begin forcing schools to reopen.

Brian Cassels (Glendale, 2020-12-13)

#235

I'm signing because I care for my fellow workers.

Esther Witler (La Crescenta, 2020-12-13)

The district needs to listen to the teachers and the concerns of the CDC and the local health department. Bring people back to the classroom in February you will have people dying. It is not worth the lives it will cost.

GUSD’s counselors, nurses, and teacher specialists must be treated as the education professionals they are and afforded the opportunity to meet the needs of students from their homes, consistent with Los Angeles County Health guidance. COVID-19 cases continue to rise exponentially, our hospitals are overwhelmed, and nationally recognized experts urge us all to remain at home as much as possible. GUSD must not require any of us to do otherwise.

Debbie Bamberger (Sierra Madre, 2020-12-14)

I care about my friends and their families.

Sean Copeland (New York City, 2020-12-14)

Safety is important.

Claudia Singh (Glendale, 2020-12-14)

#255

We need an MOU now to keep teachers, students and the community safe. It will not be safe to return to in-person teaching this school year.

Andrea Reuter (Northridge, 2020-12-14)

#263

I'm signing because our district should be supporting the safety of its nurses, counselors, and teacher specialists by planning the return to school site date be the same as teacher and student return date, thus protecting district employees and students equally, instead of targeting we specific small groups of professionals.

Lois Sheridan (Redondo Beach, 2020-12-14)

#267

GUSD needs to for once consider the safety and best interests of its employees!

Diane Lapostol (La Crescenta, 2020-12-14)

#269

I am signing this because it is unsafe for employees to go back to work on campus.

Lara Svab (Burbabk, 2020-12-14)

#272

I am signing because my partners in education need to stay safe so they can fully support those they have been entrusted with. When their health and well-being is in danger, they cannot possibly be expected to provide the best service they are qualified and capable of doing! They matter just as much as the population they serve!

Amir Ghavam (La Crescenta, 2020-12-14)

#276

Safety first.

Jackie Marashlian (Montrose , 2020-12-14)

I'm signing because the worst of this pandemic is not over. I personally have an autoimmune disorder and a husband that is in his 90s. If he were to get ill, from my getting ill, it is all over for him.
New York is closing schools again and schools are in the top five ways people are getting the virus.

Kelly Altobelli (North Hollywood, 2020-12-14)

#281

It is NOT safe to be back on campuses. Look at statistics, don’t make teachers and students become them!

Amber Hall (La Crescenta , 2020-12-14)

#282

I feel strongly that until Glendale is in a safer tier no one should be required to work in person and if we move to a safer tier, employees should be given the choice to return.

Joanne Chung (La Crescenta, 2020-12-14)

#303

No one should be forced to return to a school site until it is safe to do so.

I'm signing because our teachers ROCK! Their unconditional love for our children is priceless ❤

Patsy Chavez (Glendale , 2020-12-14)

#311

I miss my students. But I can not risk putting my family or my students families at risk of contracting COVID-19. I do not want to be forced to return until it is safe to do so.

Elizabeth Soghomoniantz (Northridge, 2020-12-14)

#314

I am a GTA at risk if being forced to return to unsafe working conditions. The district has not presented a compelling reason to risk my safety and that of my family with an arbitrary return to work date. They are not basing their decision in science or even benefit to children. This decision is arbitrary and capricious.

Deborah Albin (LOS ANGELES, 2020-12-14)

#315

I am signing this petition because I care about the safety of our students and the educators that support them!

Telly Tse (La Crescenta, 2020-12-14)

#319

I a counselor in this district.

Arsine Hovannesian (Glendale, 2020-12-14)

#320

I am signing this because our counselors, teacher specialists, nurses, service providers and coaches should have the option to keep themselves and their family as safe as possible. LA County is in the highest tier of case transmission and it has never left that tier. Nothing has changed except it has gotten worse. Why change course arbitrarily?

Marie Bryan (Glendale, 2020-12-14)

#324

I completely agree with the position of our union on this issue.

Jennifer Tavener (Sierra Madre, 2020-12-14)

I'm signing to protect my students and their families from this deadly disease. This is a crucial moment in our history to do the right thing and make responsible choices for our family, friends, and community. I have already lost my Aunt Suzie to COVID. This is real and we must protect the most vulnerable members of our community by making the right choices. It is our duty as human beings to take care of one another. While we are charting the highest numbers during this pandemic, it is almost over as the vaccine gets distributed. This is not the time to move backwards by exposing our students and possibly their families to COVID by bringing them into group environments where viruses are so easily spread. Furthermore, as a SPED teacher I know full well that many of my students have compromised immune systems and I shudder to think what would happen if there was an outbreak within this amazing and very vulnerable population of students.

Jonathan Stopek (Glendale, 2020-12-14)

#333

I'm signing this because all GTA members and GUSD employees need to be protected from exposure to Covid 19 on our campuses.

Phyllis Miller (Glendale, 2020-12-14)

#351

GUSD claims that they care about their teachers! But to order us to show up in our empty classrooms for no logical reason in the midst of a pandemic is proving that the district does not care about the wellbeing of their teachers. This is unacceptable.

Sylvia Call (Glendale, 2020-12-15)

#354

I support extending our mou and do not think it is safe for any staff to be forced back to the workplace in these conditions.

Amy Gentile (Glendale, 2020-12-15)

This is simply not a safe or sound decision for staff or families. Science has shown that wearing a mask AND maintaining six feet of distance between people is currently the most effective tool we have in the fight against Covid19. This is virtually impossible in a school setting. Even if it were possible as a result of minimized staffing, science has also proven that coronavirus can survive on certain surfaces for up to 72 hours. Is there a plan in place to ensure that surfaces such as doorknobs are thoroughly cleaned after every human contact? In addition, while children have been shown not to suffer the ravages of Covid19 to the extent that adults have, children are vectors. Therefore they may unknowingly transmit the virus back and forth between school and home thus possibly impacting staff, their own families and other students. Lastly, the stress related to being in a potentially hazardous environment will undoubtedly hinder the ability of staff members to function to their full potential. The constant worry related to staying safe from this insidious and potentially lethal pathogen will be stifling and consequently wreak havoc on the mental health of staff members. We will be consumed not only with trying to keep ourselves and our students safe, but also with worries about the potential exposure we may cause to our own families.

No one should have to return to on site work during a worsening pandemic, and it is reprehensible.

Tia Brown (Compton, 2020-12-15)

I am confused by the district's decision to put lives at risk by forcing people back to the school sites when clearly the pandemic is getting worse.

Jacqueline DaVolio (La Canada Flintridge, 2020-12-15)

I am signing this because I am not going to risk the lives of my students and overwork our medical team.

If Glendale nurses do not feel that it is safe to work on campus, then I TRUST THEM. I support ALL employees having the option to work remotely during this time when COVID transmission is "widespread" and ALL people are asked to do their part and shelter at home.

Sarah Morrison (Los Angeles, 2020-12-19)

I am a high school counselor in GUSD and I support my GTA.

Karine Turdjian (Los Angeles , 2020-12-20)

More people on campus would risk everyone of spreading COVID their loved ones, family, etc. Teachers are not essential, they are a vital necessity of our community. Their protection is also a vital necessity.
