Essential emissions reduction for Moreland Council Operations, given Council has declared a climate emergency.

There's no time for more fossil fuels - that includes gas! Moreland needs to honor its commitment to reaching zero carbon and doing everything it can to protect us residents from climate chaos by reducing emissions as quickly as possible.

Gas has no place in our energy mix if we are to have any chance of meeting our Paris commitment. #NoNewGas
I am proud to say I have had two gas meters abolished.

I use the Brunswick Baths frequently as it’s an only a short ride away on the 598 or 506 bus. I would love to see the premises heated by renewables.

Gas use needs to be phased out. Gas extraction, production and use will release GHGs. There is no way to prevent this release of GHGs, therefore phasing out its use (in line with Paris and science-based targets) is the only way address the contribution these GHGs have in the climate emergency. Alternative technologies that have high returns on investment due to increased energy efficiencies over gas use exist. Moreland Council on numerous occasions has supported and actively promotes actions to address the climate emergency. Phasing out gas use for heating in the city's public swimming pools is consistent with this support and will provide continue momentum for decarbonisation in our community. I fully support measures that address gas use in the city's public swimming pools.

We need to exit gas ASAP. As a member of Brunswick Baths, this directly impacts me. I will move to a non-gas pool if Moreland doesn't find a viable solution.

Georgia Cooke (Brunswick, 2021-06-19)

Where gas comes from and how we get it to places is an environmental disaster. It's also costly! Think about efficient heat pumps run off solar instead, or solar pool heating on the roof.

Alex Smith (Coburg, 2021-06-19)

We need to remove all gas from use as part of tackling the climate crisis and it would cheer me up as a pool swimmer.

Wendy Cox (Hughesdale, 2021-06-19)

Its both unsustainable and uneconomic over the life cycle of the facility to use gas. We have to get off gas.

Ian Mack (Coburg North, 2021-06-19)

Morelands needs to walk the talk when it comes to the climate crisis. This is a significant opportunity to reduce Council emissions, as well as expenditure on pool infrastructure in the long run.

I am a resident of Moreland and this matters to me. I don't want to be reliant on fossil fuels. Change starts from the bottom up in this country.

Reuben Neeson (Coburg, 2021-06-20)

I'm signing because there are better systems now to provide heating in aquatic systems. Solar power, to power heat pumps, heat recovery, insulated, double glazed design to keep generated or purchase heat in and not be wasted. If these buildings cannot be zero emissions then shut them!

Anne Jaques (NORTHCOTE, 2021-06-20)

I support the phase out of gas and the switch to renewables, and encourage Moreland to continue leading the way on climate issues.

Kate Allan (Brunswick , 2021-06-21)

Moreland Council has committed itself to being a Climate Emergency council it should demonstrate that in practice by making a serious committing with action to transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable action for gas heating of pools.

I love our pools but they shouldn't be powered by gas! Please install solar on the roofs and buy green power for when that's not enough!

Marian Turner (Coburg, 2021-06-23)

I would like to promote sustainability, this instead of gas heating if possible we should consider solar energy heating.

It is important to get away from gas - a fossil fuel

Suzannah Morrison (Coburg North, 2021-07-07)

Evidence abounds, on an almost daily basis, that developed countries MUST aim for a zero emissions world within just years, for a chance of securing a safe future climate. Councils have a unique opportunity to lead in this critical time. Any new energy system installed must be able to run on renewables.
