Do not close the road on Sechelt beach at Trail Bay to traffic. ( Boulevard) Keep the small section open for the public to use as one of the only beach accesses to Sechelt beach.

Comments

I totally agree that the road should be kept public. The new owner must have known that the traffic would be there. It’s a lovely spot for anyone to see and hear the water. Not everyone can afford the luxury of waterfront or directing the flow of traffic in front of their houses.

This council is outrageous! They need to be voted out!

Janice McFegan (Halfmoon Bay, 2021-07-13)

#9

So very important to keep beach and ocean access open and accessible, especially now that the population is increasing. Access to our waterfront is what makes the Sunshine
Coast.

Ruth Emerson (Roberts creek, 2021-07-13)

#13

I broke my foot and I cannot walk to the beach .

Abby Berman (Gibson’s , 2021-07-13)

#14

I think it should be open to all ages. Making it accessible for all ages is vital to the community. When people buy on a esplanade, they know they aren’t buying privacy.

Tracey Adsms (Sechelt, 2021-07-14)

#15

I go there every day to enjoy my lunch break from work please don't take it away.

Paula Hodgins (Sechelt, 2021-07-14)

#17

We need this little bit of access for mobility challenged residents.

Toni Bolton (Sechelt, 2021-07-14)

#20

I feel it is important for people to have access to the ocean. I have seen so many seniors enjoying the breeze and view along that road. Keep it open to the public.

Debbie Weeks (Gibsons, 2021-07-14)

#21

I do Not want to see this section of road closed. Please.

Joan Braunberger (Sechelt, 2021-07-14)

#23

I am signing for all of the reasons cited in the petition.

Jacquie Lee (SECHELT, 2021-07-14)

#26

I believe public access to beaches is a right that should be protected

Dawn Gibson (Sechelt , 2021-07-14)

#34

Not everyone is able to get out of their car and enjoy the view. Also in winter it is too cold to get out of your car and you can still enjoy the wild weather. Please don’t close the boulevard to vehicle traffic.

Susan Brown (Sechelt, 2021-07-14)

#36

As a former volunteer driver for Shorncliffe, the Boulevard was the only time some of the residents were able to see the waterfront and it sometimes there was a conversation from a resident who rarely spoke. It is the only place where the family can take a non-mobile family member to view a quiet waterfront.

Lynne Forrest (Sechlet, 2021-07-14)

#38

This closure should not happen. This council and previous council under Henderson have tried this before. How many times must we say no?

Karen Mccourt (Sechelt, 2021-07-14)

#40

I grew up and lived in Sechelt for 44 years and I still frequent the water front.

Chad Procknow (Roberts Creek, 2021-07-14)

#42

I have lived in Sechelt for 31 years. I have many fond memories of parking along Boulevard with my late Mother (Totem resident for 6 years, passed at 95 years), and my late Mother-in-law, to just sit in the car and be calmed and rejuvenated by the ocean view. Sometimes we would get takeout and it make a car-picnic. Walking was difficult if not impossible at the later stages of their lives. The Boulevard made it possible to bless them with this quality of life opportunity year-round.
I have never heard of a pedestrian/car incident on the Boulevard, and if council is going to give that as a reason, I want to know the yearly and cumulative statistic of incidents.
I live adjacent a sometimes noisy pub...it was there when I moved here, and accept the occasional noise and ruckus. The owners, old and new, along the Boulevard knew what they were buying into, and shame on them for trying to change community vehicular access.
If the Sechelt Council closes the Boulevard to traffic, it will prove it is either ignorant and/or heartless to challenged elders and our community at large, and bows to the needs of the few (or one?).

Lorne Jardine (Sechelt, 2021-07-14)

#43

Many times I have driven down sat in my car and had a bite to eat or read while enjoying the view.

Lots of elderly people come down and park.

Shannon Geue (Halfmoon bay, 2021-07-14)

#44

The owners of homes on that stretch of road knew it was used by the public when they purchased. Leave the road accessible to everyone.

Thomas Farmer (Sechelt, 2021-07-14)

#46

This is important to do so for the enjoyment of the community!

Carol Pashniak (Garden Bay, 2021-07-14)

#47

I regularly need to park my car on the boulevard as I cannot walk far. I am able to watch the ocean and to sit on a bech to enjoy the view. I notice others have the same need. It is important that this one stretch of accessible ocean for the public in Sechelt is allowed to continue. There have been no accidents or injuries because of traffic in 60 years! Please listen to those of us who need this access to the ocean. Thank you.

We use it every day. For people with mobility issues it is a great place to park and enjoy the beach and view.

Arlene Grant (Sechelt, 2021-07-14)

#51

One person’s opinion shouldn’t affect thousands of other people who absolutely love going to the boulevard ! Whoever wants it closed, should move !!

Ross Pearce (Garden Bay, BC V0N 1S1, 2021-07-14)

#52

I am signing because the roads, beaches and oceans belong to everyone to enjoy…I park there frequently to enjoy my lunch as do many others. One homeowner cannot dictate to a community.

Margo Dancey (Halfmoon Bay, 2021-07-14)

#53

I’m signing for the people that are not able to walk there. Frankly I think closing the road to vehicles, will be doing more harm. For the elderly and the disabled.

Michele Stephens (Sechelt, 2021-07-14)

#57

Our last tiny bit of oceanfront vantage for people in cars who otherwise have to go to Davis Bay. Nobody speeds through here and there is virtually no parking in the area! Leave it ALONE!!

Julia Frittaion (Sechelt, 2021-07-14)

#58

I am signing because just like Elaine my husband and I like to eat lunch on that stretch of the beach. It's quiet and people are friendly.

Sandra Friedman (Sechelt, 2021-07-15)

#59

I've been going there my whole life. Some days just sit in my car and have my coffee or lunch. I dont understand why this is even an issue.

Vicki Peel (Sechelt, 2021-07-15)

#60

The current state allows access to everyone. There are play spaces for children in areas suited for that purpose. Walking on the Boulevard should be an enjoyable experience of enjoying the beauty of the ocean for all.

PATRICIA POWELL (SECHELT, 2021-07-15)

#65

I like this beach access and used it lots when I was recovery from cancer. I think it needs to be left open.

Gail Carlson (SECHELT, 2021-07-15)

#69

For many years, that beachfront road has been one of my favorite spots to stop for ten or fifteen minutes and storm-watch in winter, and to take elderly relatives to give them a breath of salt air and a view if the ocean. Leave the road alone!

Judy Gill (Sechelt, 2021-07-15)

#70

We love to park there and enjoy the view and the quiet. Davis Bay is so noisy.

Gail Pentzek (Gibsons, 2021-07-15)

#71

We love being able to come a park for a short time and take in the view. Many folks need this refresher and can’t walk

Karen Biddlecombe (Halfmoon Bay, 2021-07-15)

#72

There is no reason to close it. It is a community amenity, disabled people use it to enjoy view and greet dog walkers, people use for quick lunches, motorists and pedestrians and dogs all get on very well. As do all of above get on with residents in houses on that stretch. It is a nice meeting place for everyone.

Rebecca Pavitt (sechelt, 2021-07-15)

#75

I enjoy sitting here in my car and walking my dog from here too.

Cathy Collins (Halfmoon Bay, 2021-07-15)

#76

We can still have cars going through and a walkway if they used some of the grass area more wisely.

Claire Rudd (Sechelt, 2021-07-15)

#77

I walk this area daily and I feel the area should stay open for traffic to park and enjoy our lovely coast.

Nancy Gourlie (Sechelt, 2021-07-15)

#78

An other ill conceived plan for our down town core. This is what makes Sechelt so desirable. Our water front is so accessible to people of all walks of life, why take that away from those who can only use motorizes transportation to enjoy what we have to offer.

Glenn Gourlie (Sechelt, 2021-07-15)

#81

The small beach access road is one the only ways for mobility challenged people to access the waters edge. Keep it that way!

Jef Keighley (Garden Bay, 2021-07-15)

#83

Access should be available to those of ALL mobility levels including those who have difficulty getting out of their vehicles, this is a uniquely accessible view point let’s keep it that way, please do NOT close this access to vehicle traffic.

Manuen Petersen (Sechelt BC, 2021-07-16)

#84

Many with disabilities enjoy being able to spend time near the ocean from their car. I have yet to see any car being a problem to pedestrians in this area. There are very few places where you can park along the ocean,,, don't take this perfect place away.

Denis McGuinness (Halfmoon Bay, 2021-07-16)

#85

I walk this Promenade most days with my husband and dog, and love it. We park at Friendship Park and pick blueberries now. There has never been a problem with the parked cars or the moving cars along the way. It should stay the way it is.

Marion Chell (Sechelt , 2021-07-16)

#87

I have been going there for 28 yrs. no need to change it now! So many people enjoy this area walking or handicapped parking and looking at the scenery. I am a senior. The people that buy there knew that this was an area where people park.

Margaret Cleven (Sechelt, 2021-07-16)

#88

I don't drive there, I walk. But I have never had a problem with the cars and I think it should remain accessible.

Shara Cody (Roberts Creek, 2021-07-16)

#90

I love it there so much. In this awful covid keeping us locked up we need this road to keep opened.

Marguarite Mackinnon (Sechelt, 2021-07-16)

#93

The waterfront should be accessible to everyone.

Eva Tripp (Sechelt, 2021-07-16)

#94

Signing for those with disabilities/mobility issues. It's a small stretch of street they can drive to and enjoy the scenery without having to exit their vehicle.

Cat MacCuish (Sechelt, 2021-07-16)

#108

This is where I came and park my car and relaxed on my break while working over 30 add years now and still .

Ana Shearsmith (Gibsons, 2021-07-21)

#112

I am elderly and I find it so convenient to park and then go for a walk, or just sit in my car, look at the beautiful scenery, and sometime even have abite to eat. There is already insufficient parking in the area.

Michel Silver (Halfmoon Bsy, 2021-07-23)

#113

I’m signing because I am a resident of Sechelt. This is the only easy access close to my home where I am able to sit in my car and enjoy the waves. I am unable to walk far and this is my peaceful place. People are not noisy here. People do not play loud music or leave their cars running. The needs of the many must not be ignored for the wants of a few wealthy residents who bought properties in this location knowing full well that there was a well used road between their property and the ocean.

Andrea T (Sechelt, 2021-07-23)

#116

I often use this area to access the beach and park my car while I swim. It is my favorite place to walk.

Patricia Keene (Sechelt, 2021-07-23)

#119

This is important to many, especially seniors in the area, that have relied on this area to walk for exercise and to socialize. I see many also drive down and bring a packed lunch to sit at the picnic table and enjoy the beautiful area and views, that we call home. Please keep the road open so many can access that wouldn't be able to if it was closed off.

Perrilee Meeker (Sechelt , 2021-07-23)

#128

closing the road would be a bonehead move. Why would you make it harder on locals and tourists to get to the Beach

Todd Cooper (Garden Bay, 2021-07-23)

#130

Signing for those who are not able to walk and enjoy the view. We need to keep spaces like this accessible to them. Other view points for people in cars would be great too. Shouldn’t have to pull out wheel chair or struggle to walk to enjoy the beauty of BC.

Mariel Williams (Gibsons , 2021-07-23)

#135

I live here and use this area daily to walk my dogs. I live about 2km away but drive there and unload my mobility scooter to walk the dogs. I Know for a fact there are many days that the ide streets are all ready full and on Boulevard Dr. is the only place to park. Remove this and lose a lot of good people and tourists

Frank Bush (Sechelt, 2021-07-23)

#144

I often walk along there and have lunch. With my health issues I am not good at hills

Carole Carlton (Gibsons , 2021-07-23)

#146

I’m senior, have disability issues and walk my dog there cause I can park and immediately have access to the boulevard. I also see SO MANY folks enjoying their lunch there. Heavens!! Leave it alone!!!!🙏💜

Church Mar-Lynn (Sechelt, 2021-07-23)

#148

this is one of the very few places accessible for handicapped people. Leave it the way it is!!

#149

I’m tired of stupid ideas from stupid people.

Dave Catton (Sechelt , 2021-07-23)

#152

It’s the only way I can gat my 82 year old mom to the water front to sit in the car and enjoy the view. We sometimes buy dinner and go sit and watch the sunset. I’ve never found the cat a danger along there.
As far as home owners there…the road was there when they purchased.

Michelle Ateb (Sechelt, 2021-07-23)

#153

I believe this piece of land should be left open for EVERYONE to enjoy.

Eveline Forbes (Madeira Park, B.C., 2021-07-23)

#155

I love to park there when I can't walk there.
I love to take visiting friends there.

Caren Cameron (Roberts Creek, 2021-07-23)

#159

I’m signing this because I use this small road access to take seniors to enjoy the sights and sounds of the beach.

Sherry Robinson (Sechelt , 2021-07-23)

#162

Why change? What is the problem? Folks who aren't mobile need to be able to access the waterfront in a vehicle.

Marilyn Jares (Sechelt, 2021-07-24)

#164

Beaches should have public access to be enjoyed by all.

Melanie Regier (Abbotsford , 2021-07-24)

#166

That is a safe and enjoyable beach road to walk sit picnic and A lot of elderly people walk along there as it’s much more safe and this community has been using it for years there hasn’t been problems there it is not owned by the residents there it is a safe public road

Melissa Robinson (Gibsons, 2021-07-24)

#169

It is the last location that handicapped or extremely ill can sit in a vehicle and enjoy the view well staying close to hospital and not be overwhelmed by mass crowds.

Michelle Gibson (Sechelt, 2021-07-24)

#170

I agree with keeping the road open. I am a retired senior now but when I was at work in Sechelt for many years I would often go there for my lunch hour. I would walk there as I was quite close by and sometime took my car hoping to get a parking space , not always lucky but did go there often in my car in the colder winter months and it was so nice to sit and watch the ocean and relax eating my lunch before going back to work. Not many cars can park there anyway and it is a treat to not be parked by a very busy road like at Davis Bay.

Diane Brackett (Roberts Creek, 2021-07-24)

#171

I'm a senior and I appreciate the path

Manon Lafleur (Gibsons , 2021-07-24)

#173

I’m signing because this is the only small stretch of ocean front in Sechelt. that you can park at and go for a walk. The District is getting rid of so much parking that it will soon be impossible to enjoy the town of you don’t live within walking distance.

Jessica Paul (Sechelt, 2021-07-24)

#174

Not everyone is mobile enough to enjoy the ocean, please leave it as it is.

Don Mackie (Sechelt, 2021-07-25)

#178

It’s fine just the way it is, perfect for people with disabilities to enjoy an ocean view.

Richard Matthews (Gibsons, 2021-07-25)

#182

One person complains and everyone pays? What is that?

Lori Slous Demeter (Sechelt , 2021-07-26)

#184

I totally agree with keeping the Boulevard open. Anyone who buys a property in there has full knowledge of the road being public. If they don’t like it, they should not have bought it.

Melody Wollen (Roberts Creek, 2021-07-26)

#185

That access should remain open to the public. Too many seniors with physical disabilities live around there & have enjoyed that public space for many years!

Mary Jackson (Halfmoon Bay , 2021-07-26)

#188

The District of Sechelt continues to make bad decisions that exclude, and prevent the public from accessing and enjoying the ocean waters we love. The Sechelt beachfront is a treasure enjoyed by many with limited mobility- excluding mobility restricted persons, seniors, families and others would be morally and ethically wrong

Jeri Patterson (Sechelt, 2021-07-27)

#189

We have more important issues to deal with on counsel.

Victoria Livingstone (Sechelt, 2021-07-27)

#190

I agree with community about keeping this road open. I am disabled and already go without affordable housing, why does city keep taking everything away from us???

Melody Wall (Sechelt , 2021-07-27)

#198

We need to remember our disabled and people unable to access certain areas in our town.

maxine bain (SECHELT, 2021-08-06)

#199

Pour a sidewalk where the grass/dirt walking path is and do some remedial work at the west end of the boulevard where the path prematurely ends ...this should absolve the district of any car vs pedestrian liability and make this a win/win for everyone.
