For the City of Port Phillip to reverse their decision in relation TO THE SKYLINE FERRIS WHEEL DECISION MADE AT THE CITY OF PORT PHILLIP COUNCIL MEETING ON WEDNESDAY 21 JULY 2021

I am signing because I think the decision was NOT in the best interests of economic recovery for our city form the massive impacts of Covid closures and restrictions. The Ferris Wheel will be a fantastic addition to attractions in our city and was supported unanimously by foreshore businesses and Traders Associations. We all want it and dont agree the very small footprint will adversely impact public enjoyment of outdoor space. We think the opposite that more people will enjoy being on the foreshore. The Ferris wheel was supported by the Mayor Louise Crawford and Council Officers and only narrowly defeated. Please help us turn this decision around.

It is a mistake not to have an amazing family attraction as part of an overall activation plan to assist St Kilda recover and prosper. Please view this video from last December 2020. Thank you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDh7Hsn_1hI

St Kilda was devastated last year by a lack of visitation due to the closure of state and international borders. There are no visitors, no backpackers, no interstate travellers - there are no tourists!!!! What should’ve been a beacon of hope that would attract families and visitors back to St Kilda, became a debate about 5% of green space. St Kilda has lost 78% of its visitation through COVID and the traders within the city are hanging on by a thread. Activations are the key to keeping St Kilda alive.

Angela Dawson (St Kilda East, 2021-07-23)

I believe to help bring tourists and locals back to St Kilda and re-build business this attraction should be allowed to run. The foreshore is an under-utilised draw card and could be like many thriving beachside strips around the world.

Penny Flanders (St Kilda, 2021-07-24)

I’m signing because any extra visitor numbers to the area will be a huge boost to our small business.

The Ferris wheel has and would encourage more families and laid back people to visit St Kilda.

Rather than outer suburban drunks and trouble makers, that bring nothing (but bad headlines)to our beloved St Kilda.

As a trader, I’ve spoken to countless customers and friends that live in St Kilda. Not one, has ever had an issue with it. They actually welcome it, And want it back!

Furthermore, any strategy by the council to encourage families to visit St Kilda - especially now, would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what City Port Phillip prefer, drunks causing havoc and destruction - or a family friendly environment, that’s safe for all…..

I can’t see how a Ferris wheel hurts anybody. Surely it has the opposite effect and brings joy to many

St Kilda businesses needs activity to bring people down.

We as owners of the Skyline Ferris Wheel believe the placement of the wheel on South Beach Reserve will help economic recovery for businesses and traders who have battled over the last two years during the COVID 19 Pandemic. St Kilda business have reported a 78% drop in patronage, we don't pretend to be the the only solution to this but we can be one of the solutions. This option is not costing the council anything, but instead giving them an income as well as creating approx 15 jobs for locals and creating more seating on the reserve.
We are also a Melbourne business who has been hit hard through COVID and would love to see our Ferris Wheel working in Melbourne over Summer.

St Kilda need the support of the council to reintroduce tourism. With drastically impacted sales for 1.5years, we should be encouraging initiatives.

Danielle Wellard (Windsor, 2021-07-26)

St Kilda has had zero support in getting back on our feet after the toughest lockdown in the world, whereas the CBD is getting every drop of support. Give us a break

Caitlin Robertson (St Kilda, 2021-07-26)

Local St Kilda businesses require support

Amanda Passmore (Ashburton, 2021-07-26)

The Ferris Wheel takes up a very small footprint which assists businesses in the area - unlike the adverse effect that closing down the car park had on surrounding businesses for April Sun, which was the case earlier this
year .

St Kilda is an iconic destination it should be maintained not destroyed

Jenny Eggins (Sydney , 2021-07-26)

St Kilda is a happy place in summer and attracts people from all over the city and interstate. With so few options to travel, local Victorian and outdoor attractions are a safe activity for all ages. Luna Park has suffered through lockdown as have the local traders, so the more we encourage attractions, the more people stay around to enjoy other amenities and cafes in the area.

Pamela Creed (NORTHCOTE, 2021-07-26)

I would like to see more family fun and amusement down at St Kilda Beach. We need to encourage and entice more visitors due to the ever declining numbers but increasing late night venue trade.

I’m signing because this is a great family activity and day out for us, bringing us to St Kilda where we normally patronise a restaurant for lunch, ice creams etc. it brings families to the area to support local traders..

St Kilda needs some rejuvination following the continued lockdowns.

Nicole Von Pein (St Kilda east, 2021-07-28)

Having local family attractions is so important for community connection, and small business economic activity. We are expecting to stay much more local over the next few years, and would love activities to take the kids to within our local area. Holiday dollars that used to be saved and spent overseas are sitting and waiting for fun local opportunities instead.

Miranda Tolmer (Hampton, 2021-07-28)

I have a young family and love the stkilda Ferris wheel.

Tina Wyatt (Melbourne, 2021-07-29)

#103

A ferris wheel during peak season would attract a more family friendly atmosphere therefore generating a younger, milder demographic, and encouraging a safer environment at night. The off-peak licence compromise presents as gratuitous and does not address the immediate need for action in creating a safer, more energetic and more lucrative St Kilda - a St Kilda that I fondly remember but have not seen in a decade or more.

Terina Davies (Melbourne , 2021-07-29)

I think the decision by Council was NOT in the best interests of economic recovery for St Kilda. This area has experienced massive impacts with Covid closures and restrictions.

We simply cannot afford to say NO to anything that could aid in the recovery of an iconic tourist precinct.

Now more than ever, small business and the visitor economy of St Kilda need attractions such as the Skyline Ferris Wheel. Attractions such as these have been proven around the world to generate foot traffic and even revitalise community.
