Do not Rezone Berkeley and Timberland Schools

Comments

#2

I’m signing this petition, because I do not feel our children should be uprooted from the schools they have been going to since kindergarten. This was poor planning on allowing all these developments come in and not considering where all these children would go to school.

Ashley Edens (MONCKS CORNER, 2021-10-13)

#3

I’m signing because of the extra 40 minute commute (20 each way) and this is in a car much less on a bus.

Melanie Lott (Moncks corner, 2021-10-13)

#4

I live 8 miles from berkeley high school and 18 miles from timberland. that will change my daily commute.

While I understand the need for redistricting under certain situations, we can’t continue to penalize parents, and punish children for the lack of vision exhibited by the BCSD. The projected growth along the 52 corridor was foretold more than 25 years ago! As usual though, the District finds itself being reactive instead of proactive, and forever trying to play catch up.

Bidd Smith (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-13)

#10

You buy a house in a certain school zone and should be grandfathered in that zone until you move.

Chad Salisbury (Moncks corner, 2021-10-13)

#12

I’m signing because I can not travel the complete opposite direction to another town, to take my children to and from school! It is not feasible nor does it make sense. This is a simply a result of poor planning by Berkeley county.

Aundi Driggers (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-13)

#13

I have two kids in Berkeley high and want to stay there.

Kyle Stevens (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-13)

#14

I am signing this petition because my husband and I recently started a family and built a house. One of the factors in our decision to build where we did was that our child would attend Berkeley schools as we did. This change would impact our lives and many others in a negative way.

Lindsey Phillips (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-13)

#16

I am signing because I do not want to have my child in a school that is not only 15 minutes away but it is in the opposite direction for us to travel to work
It is such an inconvenience and not ok

Dora Brown (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-13)

I live of 402. Im 15 minutes from town ( moncks corner is the closest town for anyone in cordesville) and my children shouldn’t be stripped from what they know and all there friends because of new growth and new families moving into the area. Berkeley county is so worried about how much money they can make they dont care about the people who already live in the area. Stop the building until schools in those areas are built or expanded

Tayler White (Cordesville , 2021-10-13)

#19

I built my house in the Cordesville area with the intention of still being in the Berkeley Elementary/ Berkeley Int/ Berkeley Middle/ Berkeley High school placement area. My husband and I both attended these schools and want the same for our daughters.

Shelby Harrelson (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-13)

My child has had to switch elementary school twice already because of rezone. How can she make lasting friendships if she keeps being moved. We live three miles from cane bay and 4miles from foxbank, but would have to go to whiteville. And when they build the school near roper hospital who knows who will go to that school.

Candace Abernathy (Monck corner , 2021-10-13)

#23

Because I don’t want my daughter to switch schools.

Melissa Bunch (Moncks Corner , 2021-10-13)

#25

I don’t want my kids to have to change schools.

Kasey Hardman (Cordesville , 2021-10-13)

#28

My child goes to berk cty schools and this county needs a moratorium on residential building so that the schools can play catch up. It is not fair to the kids or the parents

Stephanie Player (Moncks corner , 2021-10-13)

#31

My daughter goes to BES and loves her school, and my upcoming k5 would be attending in 2022. And we begg that you NOT rezone and leave theses kids alone they have been through a lot w covid now this.. ugh😡😡

Patricia Benton (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-14)

#32

This rezoning will affect my son who will be a senior the 2022-2023 school year.

Jessica Galati (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-14)

#34

Build another high school, not combine more. Traffic is bad enough here, no need to lengthen the commute to school for anyone. Not to mention kids have to be there early enough, no need to have a kindergarten getting up at 5am for school

Greg Bunch (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-14)

#35

My son has attended Berkeley since 5K. He is now a Sophomore at BHS. He shouldn’t be forced to move to a different HS, where he knows no one for his last two years of high school because of poor planning from our County Officials!

Tracy Judy (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-14)

#36

I do not feel that HEB, MMS, or THS can handle anymore children. They are struggling now to keep up with teachers, staff, and bus drivers. Why add weight to a situation barely treading water. Build new schools do not exhaust the ones we have. Better yet, stop building communities.

Danielle Melton (Bonneau, 2021-10-14)

#39

It's not in the best interest of established residents or students to have their children pulled from their area schools, friends, or academic clubs. The new residents could make the commute to schools out of the area until new schools can be built in their neighborhood. The district should audit who is enrolled to see if capacity issues are being affected by others going outside their assigned school district.

Clarence Harwell (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-14)

#41

I have an 11th grader in Timberland and I do not feel adding more students from the other school will be the best thing for our Timberland students. And my daughter has stressed the concerns she has about them bringing in Berekely. I as a parent do not agree with this at all

Donyale Grimes (St Stephen , 2021-10-14)

#44

I want to see kids finish the schools they’re in. Rezoning isn’t going to help the issue.

Bonnie Baggett (Santee Circle, Moncks Corner. SC. , 2021-10-14)

#45

I'm signing because Timberland already has issues with buses and getting kids to school on time. I dont feel that it can accommodate any more children. Find another solution. Dont overcrowd our schools! This goes for Macedonia and Bonner as well.

Denise Bradley (Cordesville, 2021-10-14)

#48

We purposely purchased specific land, so our children would go to Berkeley Schools.

Rosemary Thomas (Cordesville, 2021-10-14)

#49

It will send my kids to a school farther away and after they have been positively bonded with their elementary. My kids specifically would have transitional behavior issues rooted in childhood trauma and cause regression after so much progress.

Anne Moyer (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-14)

#50

My kids live 5 minutes from their current school, Berkeley Middle and Berkeley Intermediate, I do not use school transportation, I drive my kids to and from school. They have so many friends in these schools, and to make them leave is just unfair. My 6th grader is in band, and loving it, he also loves his teachers, especially Mr.Wiggins, it would break his heart to have to move to a new school.
We love where we live, and take pride in our schools. We don’t just move anywhere before checking school ratings. And to be honest, we were very happy with the ratings of these schools and for that reason build our house out here.
I will do my part in making sure my kids are not moved to a new school.

Heather Nieto (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-14)

#51

My kids shouldn’t have to up root a start all over. It will be like we moved to a new area. Kids want know many kids. It hard enough right now with the pandemic that they want to screw everything up and make kids change schools. Especially for my rising junior who would have to graduate without all her friends. Starting over is detrimental on young people when you take everything there used to and change it.

Cory Burbage (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-14)

#52

My kids deserve to stay in the schools they are already established in and have made relationships in! I cannot accommodate after school care in the new zone, the only after school care I’m able to use and my kids are already enrolled in does NOT pickup from these other schools! My family should not be punished for Berkeley County’s poor planning to allow all these massive developments to be built. When I bought my house 7 years ago the school zone was a major factor, should I just SELL my house and move?

Brynn Blake (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-14)

#56

I want my kids to stay in the school they started in

Michael Sines (Moncks corner , 2021-10-14)

#58

To help my community

David Shuler (Jamestown, 2021-10-14)

#60

This will only force some from their current homes and buy in the town of Moncks Corner! This is a bandaid solution at best.

April Floyd (Moncks corner, 2021-10-15)

#61

Both of my boys are happy in their schools & we live less than ten minutes from both. With an abrupt divorce, they do not need more uncalled for uprooting.

Dawn Patnaude (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-15)

#65

I live 5 minutes from the school my child attends but with the rezoning, I would have to travel 15 to 18 minutes. It is also a hardship. My husband is a disabled veteran.

Connie Mills (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-15)

#70

I’m signing this because poor planning on the council’s does not fall on the shoulders of parents and children. Let these kids finish where they have started. Start fresh if need be with the next generation, or better yet quit building new and revive the old!!

You’re ruining family legacies! This now limits those who would want to move within the school zones of the schools they want to stay in.

Audrey Gooch (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-15)

#72

I have land & grandchildren I that will be affected.

Lynne Shepherd (Pinopolis, 2021-10-16)

#73

I own land that this will affect.

Lynnette Oliver (Pinopolis, 2021-10-16)

#74

I’m signing because I don’t want my kids in a different school I want them to stay in Berkeley I take the time to take my kids back and fourth they don’t ride the bus if I wanted them to go in a different school I would’ve put them there but I chosed Berkeley and that’s where my kids friends are at I know what it’s like to change schools and having to meet new people my kids aren’t up for that my kids cried when I told them that they may have to switch schools. My kids will not switch schools my kids will stay in Berkeley if I’m taking them they should go where I decide to send them and I heard a lot of people say they don’t wont their kids to switch so this is a bad decision

Lilly Biering (Moncks corner , 2021-10-16)

#80

I am signing because this is not right to force my nephew who is half way through high school to change schools now in the midst of his high school career. I have friends who would be adversely affected by this also.

Allyson Stewart (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-17)

#81

This is not right for the kids.

William Conyers (Moncks Corner , 2021-10-17)

#83

I do not want to uproot my kid that is currently attending Berkeley High and I would like for my youngest to follow in his foot steps.

David Causey (Moncks Corner , 2021-10-18)

#84

We understand the enormous task of making room for all students in our schools. However over the past two years our children have been put through enough social/emotional trauma due to the pandemic. High school students should not be pulled out of their school, activities, social circles during the last four critical years of their public education. They should be focusing on their future, not starting over at a new school without their friends. Grandfather in all current high school students and their siblings currently enrolled in K-8. Keep families on the same school track and do not pull our high school students out of their schools.

Brittany & Zach Carman (Moncks Corner , 2021-10-18)

#85

My children will not attend Timberland High School. That is 10 miles out of our way one way. We drive the complete opposite way everyday for work. We moved to our location in the “county” but only 3 miles to town for the reason of Berkeley schools, not Timberland.

Alexis Rollins (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-19)

#89

I'm signing this because I believe the high school kids (9th-12th-before new zoning approval) should be grandfathered in and allowed to stay where they are if they choose. High school is hard enough the way it is without adding the stress of moving to a new school where you know no one. Seniors should get to graduate with the kids they started elementary school with. Everyone should get the choice to finish out high school at the school they were terrified and excited and nervous to walk into on their first day of 9th grade. Memories and life long friendships formed on day 1 of freshman year, let's allow those to flourish through the last day of senior year.

Nicole Cook (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-20)

#90

I’m signing this petition because I understand the need for re-zoning as our community grows to help make room in schools. I do not understand why the children who already attending BHS have to switch to Timberland High School. A. Hild at this age is already uncomfortable and awkward enough and now they have to switch schools, leave they’re friends, and potentially not achieve their dreams for the future because while yes the other school has a similar program the new school doesn’t educate the art in the same form and some of these have already been dedicating themselves to the BHS program. Changing next year could potentially ruin potential scholarships. Could the re-zoning possibly only affect up coming freshmen and going forward?

Matthew Brown (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-20)

#92

Rezoning is a necessary evil, however how its done is the important thing. If the student/family is already established in the BCSD, then that student/family should be able to have a choice of staying with the established school or switching.

Neal Turner (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-20)

#96

I’m signing this petition, because I do not feel our children should be pulled from their area schools, friends, or academic clubs.

Christy Snow (Moncks Corner , 2021-10-21)

#98

I’m signing this petition, because I feel like this would interrupt the daily commute heavily when we are already dealing with enough travel dysfunctions. I don’t agree with uprooting the students from their area schools, friends, academic clubs, and all the relationships that they have built over the years that would emotionally hinder their academic progress.

Letha Summersett (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-21)

#100

I’m signing this because my friend monterio is an athlete at Berkeley high school and he’s been there since his freshman year

Isaiah Singleton (Moncks Corner, SC, 2021-10-21)

#103

I am signing because it would be an inconvenience for the parents and caregivers to have the children go to school to a different school. The parents/community were not informed. Moncks Corner has become overcrowded with the new "communities". Please be considerate of the people who have lived, worked and sacrifice to make Moncks Corner a suitable place to live.

Marina Gethers (Moncks Corner , 2021-10-21)

#104

I’m signing this for the student athletes of BHS

Anthony Gardner (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-21)

#108

I live in Berkeley county and wish NOT to have schools rezoned

Carla Shields (Summerville , 2021-10-21)

#110

I don't want my son to have to change schools now. We live close to Canebay and 30 min away from the High School. He will be a junior next year.

Cheryl Bass (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-21)

#111

I do not think they should take the kids out the school they are already in to change them to different schools.

Sandy Chappa (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-21)

#112

Please don’t move my kids!

Gisella Baez (Moncks Corner , 2021-10-22)

#113

I am against moving my child to a different school. We searched for our current home to be zoned for Cane Bay High School which is 8 minutes away. Berkeley HS is 17 minutes from our home. Please allow our kids to stay in their current school.

Felipe Tapia (Moncks corner , 2021-10-22)

#119

I’m signing this petition on behalf at all children who are in Sports and Fine Arts. It would be 100% completely wrong to move a child that has formed a bond and team to be uprooted from their team/group. For example with this rezone there will be quite a few BHS band members having to switch schools. While both schools have a marching band they are two completely different types. Football players work hard all year long to build trust, connections, and relationships that will be destroyed.

Once a child starts a school they should be allowed to graduate from that school. Please just take a moment and consider how you would fell if you had to switch High Schools. This is not right, this is not fair.

High School is hard enough, please do not make it harder on them. Please do not take away their teams! Please consider allowing these children to be Grandfathered in to their current schools.

Jenny Mullinax (Moncks Corner, 2021-10-27)

#120

I dont think they need to be rezoned

Janet Lewis (Cordesville, 2021-10-27)

#123

I don’t understand why they want to move my kids again, all of my kids went to Cane Bay, two of them graduated of Cane Bay Highschool. Then my younger kids were moved Fox Bank Elementary. Now one of my kids was moved back Cane Bay because she is now in the middle school and once more you all want to change them again. This is not good for them academically or socially. They are NOT little toys that you can move whenever you want however you want. This is not okay and I am 100% AGAINST them moving AGAIN.
