I’ve lived in Flowers Cove and worked with these wonderful people. It is an isolated community that deserves proper healthcare services for the well being of its residents.

Amount of travel involved , we have facilitiy in Flowers Cove that could easily accommodate the dialysis patients in our area.

Sue white (Sandy Cove, 2022-01-15)

I know people who have to go through a lot and unnecessary travel and expense should not be added to their problems.

Many people in our area have to travel for dialysis especially our elderly which may have to depend on others to get to them there? Shame on the so called government in power that keep filling their pockets or sending monies to other countries!! Don’t get me wrong, no harm in helping if you can? Those govt officials are lining their pockets, retiring with a great pension & no worries while our peoples in the area that worked all their lives may have to decide on life or suffer cus they may not be able to afford to hire people or get that ride ??
ITS RIDICULOUS!!!!!!

I worked home care with a dialysis patient, and the trip to St.Anthony 2/3 times a week is very hard on the person. There’s a lot of dialysis patients in this area and a dialysis unit is badly needed in flowers cove.

Cher Dobbin (Sandy Cove, 2022-01-15)

#46

I'm signing because there is a real need in this area for a dialysis unit in flower cove.

1 1/2 drive for this necessary medical treatment is way to far to travel at most of time and definitely in the adverse weather we often have on the GNP especially between Oct -May! And for sure when you get to needing this treatment it is very hard physically to travel!

I’m signing because I have three uncle in laws from our community Sandy Cove, Uncle Roland Coles, Uncle Stan White and Uncle Nelson White travelling to and fro St. Anthony three days a week 100 kms each way for dialysis inorder to stay alive.
My 80 yr old late mother in law Alma Coles, Roland’s sister was also travelling two days a week until she passed away in August 2021.
My three Uncles are in their 70s and 80s.

My late sister Annette Myers travelled 140 kms to and fro St. Anthony two days a week and sometimes 3 days a week risking her life and her driver as my uncles in all types of winter conditions also inorder to stay alive by using dialysis for many years.
With the dangerous winter weather conditions this isn’t only risking their lives, their love ones that has to drive them to and fro due to their weak and or tired condition they are in after each session.
I’ve witnessed my late sister and late mother in law being so tired after the long tiring drive that they could not walk into the house on their own.
Heard them say many times to whomever was helping them … dialysis beats me out but not as much as the drive.
Please help our love ones

Our parents, and all our extended family could potentially benefit from having this much needed service in this area. And I pray for everyone that needs it now, that they get it in Flower's Cove.

My Dad(Wilson Toope)has to travel from St.barbe to St.Anthony two times a week for this kidney dialysis machine
and as I am writing this message my dad is missing his appointment at St.Anthony today because of bad weather and the weather is suppose to be bad for the next couple of days and also this is a very long beat on an elderly person

James Toope (Black Duck Cove,NFLD, Aok 1mo, 2022-01-15)

#95

Too many people that I know and love have had to travel for hours sometimes through treacherous weather to even get to dialysis when I r have a facility that should be able to offer it twenty minutes away. That’s if they could even get the dialysis’. The wait list is just crazy and many people are not getting as often as they really need. This just seems like a very long overdue logical fix

Tracy Myers (Bird Cove, 2022-01-15)

I’m signing for my family members who currently travel from Sandy Cove to St. Anthony 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) for dialysis.

#109

I’m signing this petition because I know first hand the extreme struggles faced by individuals and families needing dialysis in the Flowers Cove area . My mother and uncle have had to avail of service in St. Anthony. Having kidney disease is challenging enough without having to commute for up to 200km each way during the worst winter storms three times each week. It’s unimaginable b

Julia Allingham (St. John’s , 2022-01-16)

There are way too many sick people travelling unnecessary distances for life saving health care. It's time for our government to work on fixing the problem. Installing a dialysis unit in Flowers Cove can be a good start.

Lisa Biggin (Port Saunders , 2022-01-16)

#112

It should be dialysis in flowers cove for the people who needs it they should not have to travel to St Anthony .

#119

I’m signing this petition because there is an urgent need to have a Dialysis Unit at the health clinic in Flowers Cove. Currently our residents travel 1-2 hours each way 2-3 a week. All winter long these individuals put their lives at risk travelling in adverse weather conditions. As well, when roads are closed these candidates’ lives are at risk because they are unable to receive dialysis. At these times, the roads remain open in the Flowers Cove and travel to Flowers Cove is possible with guidance from the Department of Transportation.

Marsha Genge (Anchor Point, 2022-01-16)

The need a dialysis in our area

Ivy Toope (Pond cove, 2022-01-16)

#122

I’m signing because we have been to long without the proper health care and people have to travel to far for services they need in all kinds of weather. My husband had a stroke and in order for him to get to services he needed we had to sell our new home and move to closer health service for his needs. Our health services need to improved immediately. The government’s seems to find large amounts of money for things not so necessary so l am sure they can get on this situation right now.

Myra Childs (Deer Lake nl, 2022-01-16)

#124

My Mother presently is on Dialysis 3 times a week and her wish is to live in to her own home is Shoal Cove West. Bringing dialysis to flowers Cove would provide her with that opportunity. My Mother cannot survive without dialysis and to have to travel to and from St Anthony is just to difficult especially during the winter months.

Cathy Applin (Devon, 2022-01-16)

#125

I support the cause. There’s 8 patients in the area travelling for dialysis.

Mary Gould (Flowers cove , 2022-01-16)

#126

I’m signing because I believe dialysis patients in this area should not have the added stress of travelling 1 1/2 hours in treacherous winter conditions to receive treatment

MaryAnn Applin (St. Barbe, 2022-01-16)

#127

I’m signing this petition because this resource should be offered at our clinic as there is so many people there that need the unit. If the unit was at flowers cove then people wouldn’t have to travel in all kinds of weather to get the treatment they need.

I have family, such as numerous grand parents, aunts, uncles, and extended family that are directly affected by this very issue all located on the Northern peninsula of Newfoundland. Travel to this magnitude for life saving and critical treatments should not be required! Especially when the majority of the population that requires this treatment are in stages of life that make this kind of travel a sever disposition to their livelihoods.

Anisha Childs (Fort mcmurray, 2022-01-16)

It’s crucial for the people of this area! Having to commute to St Anthony is too far and winter time unsafe.

There are so many people, as well as family that have to travel so far away from home to get necessary treatments, with hospitals close to home, they should be able to access it there.

For all the ones who got to go through Dialysis it’s not fair for them to travel so far to get the treatment they needs the government can do better

Roxanne Lavallee (Black Duck Cove, 2022-01-17)

#194

It’s badly needed travel 3hrs on those winter roads is treacherous and to dangerous to be driving and ppl are going to go because they need their dialysis for survival of life.

Troy Dredge (St Anthony , 2022-01-17)

#196

The GNP is an unsafe area to be travelling in winter and people should be able to stay home and still get this life saving medicine. The travel time alone is long without the storms
