PETITION TO STOP THE ANNEXATION AND PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT PLAN KNOWN AS:

“Jackson Farms Industrial Park”

DRI case # 3553

This petition is intended to halt the annexation of land by the City of Pendergrass from the County of Jackson, Georgia. Parcel numbers: 101 008 and 101 008a.

WE PETITION TO INCITE THE OBJECTION OF THE ANNEXATION AND DEVELOPMENT PLANS PROPOSED FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS:

If the City of Pendergrass is allowed to annex these parcels, the citizens of unincorporated Jackson County directly adjacent to this land will not have a voice in the development of the land. Legally, Pendergrass does not have to consider the residential properties abutting this land if they successfully annex it.

Building codes under Pendergrass’ proposed plan DO NOT MEET THE JACKSON COUNTY MINIMUN STANDARDS. If Pendergrass annexes this property, the lower standards of Pendergrass will apply.

Based on the DRI study commissioned by Pendergrass, there will be an estimated 2,732 truck and car trips going in and out of proposed development EACH DAY. This would be directly next door to the ONLY entry/exit to two subdivisions of more than 65 family homes. This is clearly a health and safety concern.

The historic Sisson Family burial plots and plantation remains will be destroyed. John Sisson and his family are buried here. John was a Revolutionary War soldier and was commemorated by the Georgia DAR in 1999 with a placard and ceremony on this site.

WE BELIEVE THAT UNDER CURRENT GEORGIA STATE LAW (O.C.G.A 36-36-110), JACKSON COUNTY HAS GROUNDS TO OPPOSE THE ANNEXATION OF THESE PROPERTIES.

The safety of our families, the quality of life and our property values are at risk if Pendergrass succeeds in this effort.

By signing this petition, you are stating your support for the above.
