Sudan uprising December 2018

Illinois  support for Sudan uprising against president Omer Albashir government.

Dear Senator/ Congressperson

Since Wednesday, December 19th of 2018, Sudan has been in a state of unrest. It has been protesting president Bashir’s tyrannical government, a government that murdered peaceful protesters by the use of excessive force in many cities across the country.

At least 40 peaceful protesters have been killed according to Amnesty international; however, local reporters state that the death toll is currently increasing , and the number of people injured is well over two hundred. Moreover, there is hundreds of people who are in detention as a result  of this peacful demonstration.

We are certain that the death toll will continue to rise significantly if as the violent crackdown by these government forces continues unchallenged.

Our concerns are with Bashir’s tyrannical and violent government, and his suppression that annihilates citizens’ rights to peacefully assemble and protest and the right to freedom of speech.

Bashir’s forces, which include- but are not limited to: the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), the police, and the army. These forces have brutally beaten protestors with batons, and have fired tear gas and live ammunition into crowds.

Not only has the Sudanese government attempted to physically silence the protesters- by murdering them, but it has also muted them on any form of media. The Sudanese government has blocked many social media outlets, such as: twitter, Facebook, and WhatsApp.

Many activists are being detained and concerns about their safety is mounting amongst their families, neighbors, and friends.

We urge the US Senate and the house of representatives to call on the Sudanese Government to immediately stop their atrocities and violent crackdown on these peaceful protestors, stop their unjustified, arbitrary arrests of peaceful demonstrators and release all detainees.

Thank you for your consideration of this humanitarian matter, and the lives of demonstrators who are peacefully expressing and exercising their rights.

Sincerely,

Illinois For Sudanese Uprising .
