Unite together to work against COVID-19; To Condemn any protests in Australia during lockdown; request prompt State & Federal Government actions

Petition Letter: Unite Against COVID-19

The current COVID-19 situation in Australia is extremely dire. The number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in NSW has risen rapidly over the last few weeks. Starting as a small cluster in the eastern suburbs, it has now spread to south-west Sydney, and even crossed the border into other states. If we don’t contain the situation now, we will soon follow the path of India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam where the scale of cases, hospitalisations and deaths completely overwhelms the health system.

I understand lockdowns can be very frustrating. They have a huge economic impact, cause many inconveniences and even psychological, emotional, and financial problems. However, if we don’t take stronger and immediate action now to bring the COVID-19 situation under control, the impact to us, our families, and the broader economy will be much greater and more severe than now.

I acknowledge the increasing efforts of everyone. I greatly appreciate the Federal Government’s increased Pfizer purchases, additional allocation to NSW, speed-up of its vaccination program, and the various financial assistance to help households and businesses weather the pandemic. I support the State Government’s progressively stronger lockdown measures to stem the flow of community transmission. I also thank everyone in the community for their efforts in staying home, only going out for essential goods and services, and of course, always wearing a mask in public.

But this is not enough, we all need to do more. I sign this petition in support of the following:

1)      Federal Government needs to direct more resources to help stop the current COVID-19 wave in NSW, including sending more Pfizer vaccines to NSW, providing more COVID-19 response personnel (including medical staff, contact tracers, and law enforcement personnel to enforce compliance with Government Public Health Orders).

2)      State Government needs to enact stricter measures to contain the pandemic, including tighten the definition of what is deemed “essential goods and services”, and impose tougher penalties on those intentionally breaching Government Public Health Orders.

3)      Everyone pledges to stay at home and only go out when absolutely necessary, for an essential good or service, or even consider to purchase your daily necessities and foods online, if possible. More importantly, everyone should wear mask when in public, go to do a COVID-19 test if feels unwell, and talk to their GPs to see if they can get a COVID-19 vaccination, as soon as possible.

4)      I strongly condemn the anti-lockdown protest that took place on last Saturday, 24/7/2021 and any other protest being organised during the lockdown. Protests will never win the war against COVID-19. Rather it causes unnecessary social unrest and disruption and draws much needed Government resources that should instead be used to fight against the pandemic.

This is a national emergency. I plead all of you, residents, politicians, community, business, and union leaders alike, to put aside any personal differences and come together. We can only win this pandemic war if we are united and work together with our government to fight against COVID-19.
