RBDF Rangers Program remains on Pause

2021-02-16 13:30:06
Defence Headquarters, 13 FEB. ‘21 (RBDF): The Royal Bahamas Defence Force Rangers program remains one of the Commander Defence Force, Commodore Raymond King’s strategic pillars which includes that of National Youth Development for future leaders. While the organization wishes to jumpstart the program as soon as possible, there remain several factors, which makes it not feasible to do so at this particular time.
As much as the organization desires to re-commence the Rangers Program, we are mindful that manpower constraints related to the Emergency Orders have diverted the organization's focus at this time. The Officers and Marines are tasked with duties which include, but not limited to, curfew enforcement, National COVID taskings, security operations and border protection. RBDF Rangers Instructors and staff are included in the current deployment, which is mandatory.
However, as the public schools re-open gradually, and Emergency Orders relaxed, the RBDF will initiate a phased restart of the Rangers Program in earnest consistent with COVID 19 health protocols. The health and well-being of the students remain a priority.
Since its inception in 1995, the Rangers program has expanded to include over 40 schools throughout the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. It has also partnered with government, non-government and private sector agencies such as BAMSI, GGYA, and the Bahamas National Trust, Junior Achievement, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Bahamas Red Cross Society and The Bahamas Salsa Movement, among some of its achievements.
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force remains committed to working with both the leadership of the Rangers Department and the Parents in Action group, along with the students in ensuring a successful program.
