VISION

The main objective of our community is to achieve a law to ban single-use plastic from Lombok. We want to demonstrate to the government of Lombok how many people are alarmed by the mismanagement of plastic consumption. Without restrictions of usage and implementation of proper recycling facilities plastic stays on our beaches, gets into our waterways and into our food. Many of us are willing to change. Changing behavior takes time, but time is already running out for our planet, for our home. Mother Nature is choking on plastic and without change the point of no return is close. In our modern society we have become lazy and feel that stress justifies consuming single-use plastic: using plastic straws and bags, buying plastic water bottles or a coffee to go.

The short-term vision is to spread awareness about the global plastic crisis. Our intention is to reduce plastic waste by making people realize the impact of their behavior in terms of plastic. That accounts for both, locals and tourists of Lombok, every single one of us! We believe that awareness of personal responsibility is the next step on the way to our main goal: a municipal law to restrict single-use plastic.

We know this is a long journey but with hard work and determination, pouring our heart and soul into the cause, we will make a change!

 MISSION

We want to stop the consumption of single-use plastic on Lombok. WE CARE for (y)our ocean, wildlife and the health of future generations. LOMBOKPLASTICFREE stands for the concern of you and me.

 WHY

Plastic pollutes the ocean and is a threat for human health[1]:

  • Indonesia is the 2ndbiggest contributor to global plastic pollution,
  • Every year 3.22 million metric tons of plastic end up in the ocean of Indonesia[2],
  • Indonesia’s waste is dominated by single-use plastic[3], 93 million plastic straws are used in Indonesia every day[4],
  • The city of Mataram in Lombok is 2nd in unmanaged municipal waste in Indonesia[5],
  • Worldwide, micro plastic wasfound in fish[6], sea salt[7] and global drinking water[8],
  • We eat, drink and breathe plastic[9], every week our body’s ingest the plastic weight of a credit card[10],
  • Plastic is entering the human body[11]and toxic for our health[12] leading to infertility, infant disabilities, heart attacks, diabetes[13] and cancer[14].

To save our planet and our health, we must stop this now! Please sign our petition!
