Record Pedigree Name in ANKC Pedigree Database Correctly

A member of a State Kennel Council under the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC) who competes with his/her dog in Conformation and multiple performance sports gains titles that are attached to the dog’s pedigree name upon title application.

How the pedigree name of a dog who has multiple titles and/or multi Champion/Grand Champion titles is to be recorded is governed by the ANKC Regulation Part 6 The Register and Registration (ankc.org.au/media/8918/6-ankc-ltd-reg6_registration_apr-17.pdf).

The administrators of the ANKC Pedigree Database consistently violate the rule by recording wrong pedigree names of dogs with multiple titles.  The standard reason given is that the titles are too long.  This is contrary to the fact that they can record wrong pedigree names that are longer than the correct ones.

These people seem to be able to get away with thoughtlessly recording titles the way they see fit with no consequence and hence forcing members to accept their decisions as any concerns raised have fallen on deaf ears.

An example of the widespread violations of the rule that can be seen in the ANKC Pedigree Database online (https://dogsecom.ausn.com.au) is (100 characters long including spaces):

DUAL. CH. NEUT. GRAND CH. DUAL GR.CH(NTS) (Neuter) (T) MEADOWSPARK AFFRICA KIRA CD. RAE. FS.A. HTM.A

The correct pedigree name as per Page 13 of the Regulation should be (93 characters long including spaces):

DUAL GRAND CH. (Neuter) (TS) DUAL CH. (Neuter) (T) MEADOWSPARK AFFRICA KIRA CD RAE FS.A HTM.A

This petition is to urge the ANKC Management to put pressure on the ANKC Pedigree Database administrators to make the following simple database changes:

  1. Increase the length of the pedigree name field in the database to accommodate more titles for a dog as there are a lot more ANKC sanctioned performance sports these days than there were in the past.

  2. Remove the dot (.) that appears after every single title term as this is not in accordance with the ANKC Regulation and these spurious dots (e.g. DUAL., CD.) take up space unnecessarily.

Members spend a lot of time, efforts and money to gain titles for their dogs.  We deserve to have the pedigree names of our dogs recorded correctly.
