I am an international student at StFX who believes we have a voice and need to be heard each year.

Students have a fundamental right to adequate and affordable housing

(Antigonish, 2018-11-18)

#19

Students who come from other countries to receive an education should not be punished by being made to live in unacceptable conditions for three weeks, while paying unfair prices. Make higher education more accessible!

(Antigonish, 2018-11-18)

#23

International Students remaining on StFX campus during Christmas holiday should be offered accommodation in Power Hall, which has better living conditions than the Coady MacNeil Hall and at an affordable cost.

My friend Sasha told me about this problem a while ago when we first met, and I think it’s not nice of the school to treat international students in this manner. I hope the school makes adjustments which best suit my friend and her fellow international students.

I have a lot of international friends, and believe that they should be in housing that is in excellent shape. They’re spending their time away from their families on Christmas, the least you can give them is reasonable housing that isn’t going to cost them a fortune and is is good shape.

I'm signing this petition cause, I'm an international student who understands the financial struggle of having to pay and exorbitant price just for 3 weeks of Christmas break. Not being with our family is already hard, the school is just adding an extra burden on us.

(Antigonish, 2018-11-18)

#54

I’m an International student and I know the struggle.

(Antigonish, 2018-11-18)

#60

It’s unfair for the school to make money off students who also pay double the tuition. We made a promise to the Canadian gov to pay our tuition but how can we play our part if they school is doing the most. Canadians are having a hard time already paying tuition and it’s worse for int students

(Halifax , 2018-11-18)

#71

International students deserve to be treated fairly and equitably.

(Antiginish, 2018-11-18)

#72

Everyone deserves to be comfortable and feel at home during the holidays.

(Antigonish , 2018-11-18)

#80

Our international students deserve to be treated with care and respect. I cannot stay silent while the university fails to provide this standard of treatment for my peers.

(Calgary, 2018-11-18)

#81

International students have to pay triple the amount that other students have to. This is not just tuition it’s everything if they wanna live in residence it’s more, meal hall plan is more, take a summer class it’s more. They all probably want to go home they can afford it so because of that you’re going to charge them probably the equivalent of what the ticket would be to go home start caring for your students

(Antigonish , 2018-11-18)

#82

international students deserve fair treatment too!

(Antigonish, 2018-11-18)

#84

It’s frickin Christmas. Would you want to spend the best of of the year in a dingy building if you couldn’t make it home to be with your family? lol, probably not.

(Caledonia, 2018-11-18)

#97

I'm signing because otherwise I'm going to be forced to live in the FX Hall during Christmas Break.

(Port Louis, 2018-11-18)

#99

I do not believe over charging students who are unable to travel home for a holiday is right.

(Antigonish, 2018-11-18)

#108

The Coady MacNeil building is obviously not up to standard for people to live in any time, let alone the holidays. As I plan to be an international student myself in 3rd year, I know I would not feel welcomed nor valued if my host university put me in a building that you are surprised to learn is still used even just for storage. Plus, come on, it’s the holidays, have a heart

(Antigonish, 2018-11-18)

#120

X needs to treat international students way better. This is the least they can do.

(Truro , 2018-11-18)

#126

I want international students to have a comfortable and accommodating Christmas break, especially if they cannot return home.

(Antigonish, 2018-11-19)

#130

I believe it’s unfair to charge this much to people who simply can’t get home over the break, these people are already paying thousands of dollars to attend stfx

(Truro, 2018-11-19)

#135

Because we wouldn’t put our own family members in these conditions over the holidays, especially not at that price. It’s unfit and disgusting to do so to students who already pay extra to attend our universities in our province, they come all this way to achieve their best education and living experience. Set a better example or lose their business.

(Halifax, 2018-11-19)

#136

I’m signing because this is ridiculous.

(Kentville , 2018-11-19)

#138

I’m one of the students staying during the break

(Antigonish , 2018-11-19)

#141

International students deserve better at this school. They’re coming here from a completely different country, and just because that can’t go home doesn’t mean they don’t deserve a good place to stay

(Antigonish , 2018-11-19)

#146

As an exchange at X, I was lucky enough to have a little money to travel around during Christmas time. However I’ve seen my exchange and international friends stay at X in McNeil and I know it’s been hard for them. Some of them aren’t going home in years just to be able to graduate from X. Being away from your family and your country is already hard enough, can you imagine during Christmas time when everyone else is with their family or is traveling ? I think welcoming people staying for Christmas in comfier and more welcoming places than MacNeil shouldn’t even be a question.

(Lyon, 2018-11-19)

#153

I believe they deserve to have more comfort for a lesser price because they can’t go home to their families for the break

(Antigonish, 2018-11-19)

#155

I believe the cost is outrageous and the students should be comfortable while away from home during the holidays.

(Antigonish , 2018-11-19)

#157

As an alumnus of STFX, I’m very disapppinted to see the new plans for the accommodations of international students over the winter break. These students are already unable to be with their families during this period and in a country that they may still be adjusting to; as an Atlantic Canadian institution, STFX should show their international students the hospitality that Atlantic Canada is known for and not push potentially prohibitive costs into students that are already paying greatly increased fees as compared to Canadian students.

(formerly Antigonish, 2018-11-19)

#160

International students already pay more than Canadian students so there should be something built in there to cover their Christmas expenses. Also, whatever happened to kindness, compassion and hospitality over the holidays? We are better than this.

(Antigonish, 2018-11-19)

#170

It's ridiculous that St. F.X. would do this. It's the equivalent to charging extra for necessities during a hurricane or a natural disaster. In any other condition they would be fined for doing this to the students. It's shameful.

(ANTIGONISH, 2018-11-19)

#178

It's scandalous to try to make money off the backs of those who cannot afford to go home for xmas break....they pay enough to go there, at least have decent accommodations for the holidays!

(Pictou County, 2018-11-19)

#189

This is disgraceful.

(Halifax, 2018-11-20)

#197

I beleive it is unfair for international students to be treated any different than other students!

(Coldbrook, 2018-11-20)

#199

It s unfair of only raising international student s rent. International students are already paying double tuition fees, it is unfit to ask them burden this much

(Antigonish, 2018-11-20)
