Save The Jerseyville Moose Building

Thank You For Signing the Petition to Save & Rehab the Jerseyville Moose Building!

...but we are not done yet, and this issue still needs your help!!

We have, this week, printed and delivered the results of the petition to the Mayor and Council members of the City of Jerseyville. With your help we have achieved over 500 signatures, and rising! Thank you!!

We also met face to face with the Mayor and others this week, for the 3rd time, and presented our written proposal to take on and rehabiltate the Moose building. As things stand, the Council members have offered to take the issue to a vote of the City Council at the next City Hall meeting on February 11 2020, at 6pm. That is encouraging, but does not mean there will be a positive outcome. There is a very short window of opportunity to help change their minds, before they vote.

Please, if you feel able, contact the City Council members directly by email (email adresses below) and express again how you care about this issue; whether that be the waste of taxpayers dollars, the questionable legality of the spending, or the waste of an historic building that holds such huge potential for re-use.

Please also try and attend the City Council meeting on February 11, 2020, at 6pm at Jerseyville City Hall, and show your support in person. Whatever the outcome of the vote, the Council members need to hear your feedback.

The rehabilitation of the Moose Building will be a hugely positive visible indicator of downtown vitality, not just in Jerseyville but beyond, and a catalyst for further downtown improvement. Jerseyville has a need for a family and children focused business, a place where people can gather, and which can serve as a large events and banqueting space. This building has the unique characteristics to fill that need, which no other downtown building can provide.

Our solution is a win-win for all involved, with no obvious downside; Everyone honors the existing contract; City and businesses get their parking; the City save some money; the owner gets his money; the building is saved; and we bring it back into use for commercial and community benefit - all at no cost to the City. All that is required is a simple hand amendment to the existing contract.

We are excited about the potential to rehabilitate the Moose building. We sincerely hope it can happen. Your support has made it more likely, but we are not done yet.
