PETITION CONCLUSION

The petition has now come to a close. The goal was to reach 500 signatures but we ended up with 304. The reason why 500 was chosen is because according to experts who do sampling, 500 represents a wide enough cross section of persons in our community. We ended up with Bahamians all over the globe supporting the cause which is outstanding.

This has been truly a learning experience. I will use this to propell me forward in my next area of endeavour. The petiton will be presented to the government because the concerns are real. Mr. Edmund Spencer Moxey is a national hero and deserves the honor and respect as such. The IDB has launch a new initiative called the Orange Economy. This is the process of intergrating culture into the economy. Mr. Moxey was more than 40 years ahead of them.

I am still pursing the iniative of an integrated culture village. I thank you all for taking the time out to sign the petition and for spreading the word.

Reaching 500 - Part 2

We are gaining momentum.  I was on Cable 12 News on Saturday and that has given us a lot of publicity.

The goal is still to reach 500 quickly. We are almost half way there.  I need each one to bring one more and we would be just about there.

Reaching 500

We have now reached 125. I need everyone to recruit 5 new people each (Bahamians only).

It is very important that we get to 500 people before the end of the week. The grounds at Big Pond are sacred culturally because of the history attached to it. The government has already started working on putting a regular park there. That is equivilant to putting a shack on a commercial property. This is not political because the plans were drawn by the former adminstration.

I have drawn up a new plan fo that site - The New Jumbey Village.

It will include the following: straw market,  fish fry, arts & craft market,  museum,  logo shop, cultural icon memorial park,  flea market tents(every Saturday),  water feature with 20 feet dancing water on the lake, recreation area,  walkway,  multi-media theather(showing the entire history of The Bahamas and ending with a Junkanoo rush out throughout the property), souveniour & other shops, restrooms, security and administrative office and entertainment stage with vacant area for 1,000 people.

This site will be the mecca for culture in The Bahamas and will attact both locals and tourist. This can then be duplicated to other cultural sites and throughout the entire Bahamas.

The Bat Cave

Yesterday I went to the secret location of the office for which this project is located. It is the upper level of a two storey building on Cordeaux Avenue and Baillou Hill Rd.

I went inside the first office that have Bahamas Hot Mix on the door. Inside was an open space with construction drawings on the wall for the Big Pond project. I asked to get a copy of it and was refered next door to the Ministry of Works sub office because they are only the contractor.

I went next door and made my request and was told that I had to write the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works. Before being told that I was interrogate almost down to my blood type. I guest they were shock to know that a member of the public discovered their secret Bat Cave. The gentleman refuse to allow me to even look at the drawings that was visible everywhere in the office. I then asked him to just tell me what all was going to be done. He explained that the area south of NIB headquarters that they are working on now is the parking lot. He said that the project will be in phases that will include a bordwalk around the lake and across the lake to the new highway (Edmund Moxey Highway). It will also include all the other sporting facilities found on other parks.

It now seem useless to try convince them to recreate Jumbey Village at that site. Tell me what you think.

Petition Update

It has been 10 days now since the petition was created. We only have 78 signatures. This is highly disappointing. The government and media only respond to numbers. Most persons who know me said they support the idea but refuse to sign the petition.

How do we get more people to sign the petition?

I have posted it on Facebook for the past 10 days and sent it to my e-mail database. That was very effective and I want to encourage you to do the same.
