LOADED GUN FOUND ON STUDENT: METAL DETECTORS NEEDED ASAP CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL LUNENBURG VA

THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED FEBRUARY 23, 2015. LUNENBURG, Va. — A high school student in Lunenburg County has been banned from school property after allegedly bringing a loaded handgun to school. Superintendent Charles Berkley confirmed to CBS 6 News that the freshmen brought the handgun to Central High School in Lunenburg on Monday.

Berkley credited several students with spotting the gun and alerting staffers. He said the student was unloading the gun in the bathroom when the students reported it.

As a result, the school resource officers confronted the student and removed him from school property. Berkley said the gun was found in the student’s backpack and that bullets were found in his pocket.

Berkley said the case is now being handled by the sheriff’s department and that a disciplinary hearing will be held Monday.

The superintendent said he did not believe the student was going to harm anyone.

Really??!!!!!

There has been no word on what charges the student will face.

MY QUESTION TO THE SUPERINTENDENT IS HOW CAN YOU GIVE YOUR OPINION THAT YOU DO NOT BELEIVE THE STUDENT WAS GOING TO HARM ANYONE? IT WAS LOADED AND HE HAD BULLETS IN HIS POCKET!!!!! IF THERE IS A LOADED GUN YOU MUST ASSUME THAT IT IS THE INTENTION OF THE PERSON WHO IS CARRYING THE WEAPON TO USE IT!!! OR AT LEAST THE THOUGHT CROSSED THEIR MIND. THAT IS A IRRESPONSIBLE STATEMENT TO MAKE. HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT CHILD WAS NOT INTENDING TO USE IT???

PARENTS OF CHILDREN AT CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL. WE NEED TO DEMAND METAL DETECTORS NOW! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. IF THE CHILDREN HADN'T HAVE SEEN THE GUN BEING UNLOADED IN THE BATHROOM CHANCES ARE THAT THE STAFF WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN HE/SHE HAD IT. GOOD JOB KIDS! CONTACT ME THROUGH PRIVATE MESSAGE TO GET THIS ACTION STARTED AND TO DISCUSS YOUR CONCERNS. I DONT WANT TO PLAY RUSSIAN ROULETTE WITH MY CHILD'S LIFE. DON'T THINK IT WON'T HAPPEN HERE BECAUSE THIS PROVES IT CAN!

SIGN THIS PETITION SO WE AS PARENTS CAN HAVE OUR UNITED VOICES HEARD. THE STATEMENT MADE BY THE SUPERINTENDENT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME!
