I’m signing because I’m horrified that IU administrators are caving to the outside right-wing attack on higher ed, freedom of speech, and academic freedom. It’s unconscionable that IU would punish a successful member of the faculty in this way. Just stop it. Retract the suspension and offer a formal apology.

Firing him was an awful and "unlawful" decision. And I wonder how one political person in Indy can demand such a thing.

Personal and academic freedoms have been breached in the suspension Dr. Sinno, wherein any university employee could attest to the fact that the offense in question is disproportionate to the outcome. In addition, the university has chosen to act without transparency in its suggestion of “credible threats” of violence. Educational institutions have teams and assessments used to determine credibility of threat- none of which have been named in ANY of the sanctions students, faculty or staff that support Palestine have faced. All the while, pro-Zionist behavior has been ignored and in many ways exacerbated by the response or lack of response from the university.

I find the action against which the petition is a protest unjust and harmful. Indiana University has been shamed before the eyes of the world.

Because I believe in academic freedom.
