2nd Beach Volleyball Court at Coolum Beach

One free public court at Coolum Beach is GREAT but as it's use steadily increases, it is becoming impossible to cater for different groups who want to access the facility. Currently the court is used by recreational users coming from north and south (and of course local Coolum residents), juniors and high performance trainings for local training towards national and international competition.

 
Our proposal is to establish a 2nd court between the existing court and the south access steps - where currently exists a very small vegetated dune (as seen in the picture below). We would re-purpose the existing spinifex to support other local dunes (with assistance from the local Coast Care group) and pass on the creeping vine to a local native nursery. Once cleared the sand can be groomed to provide a level deck suitable for a 2nd court.

We would also look to have the stone wall area cleaned up to provide a seating/hangout area.

SCBV currently has a Permit for 2 courts, however the Council is reluctant to allow our preferred site due to their desire to maintain the existing vegetation. Our view is that the vegetation in question is minimal, is in a man-managed area and the up-side of a 2nd court with regards to creating a place of connection, recreation, enjoyment and potential training for the local community outweighs the Councils concerns and the inevitble movement of sand.
