PETITION FOR JUSTICE: In Memory of Ntombizanele Faith Nopopi Katyiya
We, the undersigned organizations and members of the community at large, are deeply outraged and heartbroken by the brutal murder of Ntombizanele Faith Nopopi Katyiya, a young woman whose life was violently and senselessly taken—allegedly by the very person who claimed to love her, her partner.
We are calling for urgent and unwavering action from the South African Police Service, the Department of Justice, and all relevant authorities to ensure that:
1. The primary suspect, her boyfriend, is immediately arrested and charged for his role in this horrific act.
2. He must not be granted bail under any circumstances, as solid evidence of his abusive behavior towards the late Miss Katyiya has already been presented.
3. He must be suspended from his academic institution pending the outcome of the investigation and trial. Institutions of learning must not be safe havens for those accused of violent crimes against women.
The justice system must act swiftly and without leniency to show that Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and femicide will no longer be tolerated in our communities.
Gender-Based Violence and femicide are a national crisis in South Africa. Women are being murdered, often by intimate partners, at an alarming and unacceptable rate. Enough is enough.
Let the tragic death of Ntombizanele Faith Nopopi Katyiya not be in vain. Let her name be a rallying cry for justice, accountability, and protection of every woman in our country.
We demand that the law play its rightful role in ensuring that those who abuse and kill are punished to the full extent. It is time that every man understands: Women’s lives matter. Their pain matters. Their safety matters.
We demand justice for Ntombizanele.
