Announcing the SIAM NYNJPA Section

2022-08-30 13:43:14

Dear Colleagues,

Last year, you signed a petition supporting the creation of a new SIAM section, SIAM-NYNJPA to serve the states of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. We are excited to announce that the SIAM Board has approved our proposal, so that the section now open for membership.

The section will organize annual section meetings, seminars and workshops on advanced topics in applied mathematics that are of common interest to the section members. The SIAM New York-New Jersey-Pennsylvania Section will encourage new SIAM student chapters and facilitate all SIAM student chapters to connect, thereby promoting collaboration in applied mathematics and its applications to industry and science. Participation in the section activities will be open to all institutions and industries in the region with an interest in applied and computational mathematics. We hope to hold our first annual meeting in May/June 2023 in Philadelphia.

The inaugural board consists of
Roy Goodman, NJIT, President
Yue Yu, Lehigh, Vice President
Eric Forgoston, Montclair State, Treasurer
Rongjie Lai, RPI, Secretary

Thanks to everyone who signed the SIAM NY/NJ/PA petition

Dear Colleagues,

I want to thank all of you for signing the petition to create a new SIAM Section for New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. I have some news.

Today we submitted the petition, along with a formal letter of intent to create the section, to the SIAM Board of Trustees. Their bylaws state that they must respond to the petition within sixty days. I will write again when we have an answer.

I am leaving the petition online. If more people sign, it only helps our case.

Thanks again,

Roy
