Your presence needed! Gloucester city council, April 22, 7pm!

2014-04-21 18:43:17

Hi concerned residents of Gloucester who support off-leash zones:

We need your presence at the April 22 Gloucester city council meeting!

Where/when: 7 pm, Tuesday April 22, KYROUZ AUDITORIUM, CITY HALL

Why: There is a public hearing on the proposal put forth by the ad hoc committee which does allow for off-leash dog walking, but seeks to restrict times and dates. Many who support off leash dog zones are unhappy with the "compromise" reached by the ad hoc committee. Also, there will be in attendance a group of people who completely oppose off leash zones, and who are adamant and determined. We need to show them- and city council- that they are in the minority!

Caveat: The public hearing about the ad hoc committee proposal is the last item (#6) on the public hearing part of the meeting. It could be a long meeting, and there are no guarantees that there will be time to get to the discussion and the council could vote to have it moved to another meeting. OR, if there is a large showing, the agenda item might get moved up- yet another reason to show. What is important is that those who support off leash zones in Gloucester show up at the meeting!

Gloucester behind the times! Will not accept online petition- please read below for alternatives

Dear concerned citizens who have taken the time to sign the petition to amend Gloucester dog ordinance:

I have just been informed that the City of Gloucester will not accept online petitions as they claim the signatures are not verifiable. Regardless of whether they have a point to this claim or not, we've decided to try to get as many of you to also sign paper petitions. Please note that we were encouraged to do an online petition by a city official who did not mean to mis-inform us- although it is evidence of how hard it is to figure out how to create change- and we thank you for your patience as we learn this process! We will still print out and deliver the online petition, but we need at least 125 verifiable signatures on paper petition from Gloucester residents who are registered to vote for the City Council to take our proposal seriously.

In any case, paper petitions are available at the following locations and will be available to sign-- If you can take a few minutes to drop by one of these locations, please do so as soon as possible, the sooner we deliver the petitions, the more ability we'll have to know how we should proceed at the November 12th meeting:

Animal Krackers in Downtown Gloucester

Petco in Gloucester Crossing area

Last Stop Variety in East Gloucester

Paws at Play on Eastern Ave in Gloucester

North Shore Veterinary Hospital in Gloucester

Cape Ann Veterinary Hospital

Thanks so much to all of you who've signed!! I will leave the petition up, and you can continue to email me through the petition site.
