Dear Mr Romain,

Objection to proposed boundary change.

I am writing to express my objection to the current plans to move the Craigton Community Council area (CCCA) from Govan Ward to Pollokshields Ward.   Craigton community has many links within the Govan Ward. The large area of Bellahouston Park separates the communities of the CCCA and the Pollokshields Ward which means that there are few (if any) links between the two communities. This is the main reason I would like to object to a move from the Govan Ward to the Pollokshields Ward.

The Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland were made aware of objections from the people of CCCA to the proposed move, yet failed to respond directly to Craigton Community Council or individuals who raised concerns. No reason was given for ignoring the concerns raised by a large number of residents in Craigton (via Craigton Community Council and others), it would appear to be solely on the basis of reduced parity with regard to the number of voters per councillor.

It is accurate in that parity would be reduced by keeping Craigton in Govan, but not to a significant extent, and certainly not to the extent that it justifies dismissing the views of the people who live in the area. Additionally other boundary change options were available in the Glasgow Southside area.

The review states that there were a low number of responses yet the responses that the Boundary Commission received represented a large number of people and were dismissed out of hand. The concerns expressed by members of the community were totally ignored by a need for the numbers to match up.

I sincerely hope that you will reconsider the proposed boundary change and prioritise the needs and views of myself and my community.
