Demand for Non Violence - Red House Eviction Protest

Attn:

Red House Activists

Mayor Ted Wheeler

Chuck Lovell, Chief of Police

Portland City Council

This is a beloved community of families and small businesses in the vicinity of the Red House eviction protest.  We cherish the safety of our neighborhood and right now we feel incredibly unsafe.

Whereas:

  1. Lethal weapons and threats of violence are clearly visible at the Mississippi/Albina Ave. blockade.
  2. Escalation could lead to serious violence.
  3. Serious violence threatens the safety of the residents and businesses in the surrounding neighborhood.

We respectfully demand of all parties:

  1. Lethal weapons not be displayed or flaunted.
  2. Any resolution to the situation on Mississippi/Albina Ave. be through political means without violence.
  3. Dialog between the City and the people occupying Mississippi/Albina Ave. be opened and maintained until a peaceful resolution is achieved.
  4. Blockades on Mississippi/Albina Ave. be peacefully removed and the street reopened.
  5. Creativity to be used to find a solution.  This situation is an opportunity to heal and improve community relations.

Sincerely,

Residents of the Mississippi Neighborhood
