Direct flight Montreal Bucharest

This year - 2017 - Canada plans to withdraw tourist visas for Romanian citizens.

According to the website of the Canadian Embassy in Bucharest, on May 1, 2017, Romanian citizens would be able to fly to or transit through Canada with an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), instead of a visitor visa if they:

  • have held a Canadian visitor visa in the past 10 years; or
  • currently have a valid United States nonimmigrant visa.

The Government of Canada has also announced that it intends to lift the visa requirements for Romanian citizenst starting December 1st, 2017.

In Canada, there are around 200,000 Romanian citizens or citizens with family ties in Romania, 40.000 of them being in Montreal and surrounding areas.

Given the above conditions, we want to gather signatures and prepare a business case to approach TAROM and AIR CANADA proposing the commissioning of a direct flight Bucharest-Montreal & Montreal-Bucharest.

Currently, flights between these two cities have at least one layover, resulting in a duration of more than 12 hours and prohitive costs, especially for families with more than 2 members. Given the large number of Romanians in this part of Canada, their families and friends from Romania who will surely want to visit once the visas are lifted, and the tourism potential of both countries, we are confident that it will meet the required number of passengers to justify such a flight.

Thank you for your support!
