Fire at Simmer & Jack landfill site

We the Residents of Ekurhuleni hereby petition The Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni, Mzwandile Masina, plus MEC Morakane Mosupyoe from Gauteng Provincial Legislature, to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire that started 8 September 2020 plus the Compliance at the Simmer and Jack Landfill site Elandsfontein 90-IR during its every day operations. Plus to investigate if the site is adhering to the Bill of Rights on Environment Section 24(b) and the effect on the all the surrounding residents

The Bill of Rights states - Everyone has the right –

(a)   To an environment that is not harmful to their health or wellbeing

(b)   To have the environment protected, for the benefit of present and future generations, through reasonable legislative and other measures that –  

(i)   Prevent pollution and ecological degradation

(ii)   Promote conservation

(iii)   Secure ecologically sustainable development and use of natural resources while promoting justifiable economic and social development
