If a local anistethic was used it would be more humane. Doesn't seem like that would cost too much?!!

Please stop tail docking and removing of dew claws by the public. It should only be legal when done by a vet under anaesthetic and only if medically necessary.

This is barbaric. Vets should be the only person to do it. Its not just the lack of anaesthesia, its the fact they can cause long term suffering disfigurement and/or death from infection!!!!! Amateurs should NOT be performing surgery on anyone but themselves......

#526: - "If a local anistethic was used it would be more humane. Doesn't seem like that would cost too much?!!"

It's not just the matter of anaesthesia, its cleanliness and the fact that infection could well be overlooked and a poor animal will die in agony.  AND also the fact that some animals will be done wrongly and be disfigured and possibly in pain for their whole life, which may not be very long if its been done THAT badly.

This goes deep to my very core. How can the people of Ireland allow this to happen.? Blatant cruelty to animals and flies in the face of humanity. These people are cruel, malicious fiends and should be stopped NOW. C'mon Ireland ban this practice NOW,

What is wrong with this government? Why on earth would a government enforce an animal welfare act that inflicts ever more torture on defenceless creatures when trained veterinarians are prohibited from doing so. I am getting more depressed by the hour with this government who inflicts ridiculous ideas that cause horrendous repercussions. Ireland has one of the worst reputations in Europe for animal cruelty and the Irish Government has yet again, decided to cause absolute mayhem. God save us from moronic politicians. Please sign, share with everyone you know and stop this barbaric act.

One would wonder where common sense has gone with regards to enshrining into law the legal right of any individual to mutilate an animal and without any pain meds? Worse again we the taxpayer Pay these guys!!!!!

Docking tails is not acceptable. It may at times aid owners but thst is not sufficient reason to deprive a dog of its right to a tail!
NO MORE PAIN

I am not aware of any advantage this would be to our animals but I am aware of the unnecessary pain it would cause & how it would change an animals natural defences.  Is any of the intelegent government willing to have their toe nails pulled of without an annestic???? I would like to see them if they are and to photo it being done and then watch them carry on 5mins later as if nothing happened!!!!
