Please listen to local commuters, many of whom have been using this train for years, and reinstate this train.

Cancelling this train makes about as much sense as stopping Manchester / Lancaster trains from running through Bolton. Unbelievable.

#4 Short sighted rail company cuts its communting train.

What kind of so called economic madness is this? I am sure Trans Pennine are doing this because it strengthens their bottom line but it will harm and damage the bottom line of many other people.
Profiteering by passing on (externalising) the real costs of an action to others might be 'clever' in the narrowly defined way that an animal achieves a cunning kill is clever but it is an action that, from a human point of view, is both socially stupid and inept in anything but the shortest short-term context. And, in the long run, it is an act of economic suicide for all.

This is a local service which encourages people to use public transport. This one srvice that should be kept ahead of many others.

At a time of increased congestion on both trains and roads, it seems ludicrous to cutting train services, especially to rural areas where links to the cities are vital for commuters.

lts also bad that there are no trains straight through on a sunday.

Cutting this service will make my journey home very long & difficult. I work full time in Kendal & I'm unable to change my hours. I enjoy my job, but with the forthcoming end to this train is making me re think if work & family life be compatible.

We need good public transport in this country in order to be successful, grow our economy and support a high quality of life for our citizens. very worthwhile petition.

Commuters in any rural area should be concerned and support this petition. There is a dearth of regular public transport in many rural areas and proposed reductions such as this can only exacerbate the problem. A service to your community / workplace could easily be next on the rail 'chopping block'.

Trains are vital to the economic viability of towns like Kendal and Lancaster. Cancelling a train at this time also just further clogs up roads while isolating elderly and young.

Once a service is withdrawn people have to make alternative arrangements and for those individuals public transport ceases to be cost effective. As a transport provider it is surely short sighted to reduce your customer base!!

more trains that stop more people will use them and a connection to Windermere within a few minutes

What a ridiculous idea! People need to commute so why on earth would you take a train out in the middle of the peak period?

My clients use this train so the withdrawal will directly affect my business. There is a widespread need for this rush hour service: it is a vital part of the public train provision.

This is a well used service

This is a perverse decision which, it is clear, will seriously affect a lot of people. What's the point of a public transport service that doesn't transport people when and where they need to be transported?!!

I have been working in Kendal for 9 years and now find that the peak time train which gets me home to Lancaster is being withdrawn. Regular commuters like me have not been consulted on this change and have not even been informed by Transpennine that it is going to happen - even though it will have such an impact on our lives when it happens in a few days time.

We need to stop this erosion of public transport so that the UK has a chance of meeting targets for carbon emission reduction. How can a private operating company be allowed to make such a decision without explanation or consultation.

Ah the Kendal to Lancaster train journey- the bane of my life for the last ten years as a commuter and as someone who likes to travel...what 20 miles to see friends and socialise. The only convenient trains are the 5.30pm and 6.30pm trains after work so taking the 5.30pm one away is madness. Too expensive as well but as someone who is committed to using public transport I bear it. It's not like there is a great bus service between Lancaster and Kendal to compensate..? The current lack of train service already makes travelling between Kendal/Lakes and Lancaster inconvenient enough to put a person off- why make it even worse?!?

The withdrawal of the 5.30 train will influence my house moving decisions. The lack of connectivity will have a serious impact on property prices in Kendal.

Please do not cancel this service. We do need it.
Thank you

Public transport should be improved not made worse!

A drop in services at peak time is counter-intuitive. On top of this leaving a 2 hour gap in the timetable will seriously inconvenience passengers and ultimately lead to more road usage.

Scrapping this service will automatically lead to reduced morning commuters, and financial loss to the railway company
