Germiston South Constant Power Outages 2021

We the residents of Albemarle, Castleview, Dewittsrus, Dinwiddie, Elsiehof, Leondale, Norton Small Farms, Union, Wadeville, & Railway street Germiston South in Germiston, City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, have had to endure numerous power outages every week for the last 4 weeks. 

We petition the Mayor Cllr Mzwandile Masina, the MMC Alderman Tiisetso Nketle, The City Manager Dr Imogen Mashazi &  the Portfolio Committee of COGTA to investigate the high number of outages, the exact reason thereof and province comprehensive report to the Residents affected. The report should be made public as soon as possible but no later than the next full council meeting. 

The Metro does not seem to be able to handle the situation and plan accordingly. We cannot accept the excuses that the Metro keeps on providing for these outages. The businesses and residents of the area are deeply affected by the power outages, which result in loss of business and  income, food items losses, electronic equipment, and appliances damages and severely compromising the well-being and care of the sick, elderly and frail. Our Environment is severely impacted when generators run for hours on end. Streetlights is also a not being attended to for months on end with no resolution. 

We furthermore call on the Minister of COGTA to instruct the Metro to undertake to upgrade the electricity supply and to fill the funded vacant positions as a matter of urgency.  

We additionally request that for every day that the residents have been without power, Council needs to swiftly resolve all the subsequent damages, losses and/or third-party claims submitted by residents through the appropriate submission process.
