Hazelpark and surrounding area frequent area outages
Ekurhuleni, Germiston
**To:**
Ekurhuleni Municipality
and Energy Department
Dear Ekurhuleni and energy department,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the ongoing and frequent power outages affecting our community. Since the installation of the new substation, we have experienced outages every week, often lasting three days or more. This situation has severely impacted our livelihoods, both financially and emotionally.
Residents from areas including Wadeville, Dinwiddie, Albermarle, Union, Norton Small Farms, Stone Arch, Castleview, Hazelpark, Hazeldene, Mimosa Park, Lambton Gardens, and parts of Estera Hi are all experiencing these issues. Many of us work from home, and these outages prevent us from completing our work, leading to lost income. Additionally, the frequent interruptions have resulted in spoiled food, forcing us to dispose of items we can no longer use. Many have had to spend extra money on fuel to run generators for extended periods, further straining our finances.
To provide evidence of the severity of this issue, we can list specific dates of major outages that have occurred in our area. These outages have been reported within our community group, highlighting the frequency and duration of the disruptions.
Despite submitting multiple reports to Ekurhuleni and reaching out to our councillor, Jean Ingram, the issues remain unresolved, with some residents going months without reliable service. This is unacceptable, especially considering the high fees we pay for electricity and property levies.
The impact of these outages extends beyond financial concerns; it affects our daily lives. Our children struggle to complete their homework without power, and basic tasks like cooking and bathing become challenging. Moreover, our security is compromised during these outages, leaving us vulnerable.
We urge you to take immediate action to address these issues. It is time for a solution that ensures reliable service for all residents.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. We look forward to your prompt response.
Sincerely,
Resident
