Invest in the youth of South Africa

A Petition to Invest in the Youth of South Africa! Re/member, re/define, and re/imagine what the arts can do for today’s Youth! We are calling upon all South Africans- artists, government, educational institutions, civil society and all religious groups- to re-invest in the role of the arts in primary, secondary and college education, and to revive the role of community-based arts centers as places of safety, social development, learning and healing. The arts played an important role in bringing about a democratic country. We believe the arts can play a significant role in developing a society that is committed to social transformation. The arts can play a central role in healing the ‘unfinished business’ of our truth and reconciliation process; the arts can address the critical health, social and educational issues facing South African Youth; and the arts can help us re/vision what it means to be responsible, compassionate, active and creative citizens. We, therefore, call upon all artists, government, educational institutions, civil society and all religious groups to:• Re/member, re/define, and re/imagine the role of the arts in social transformation throughout all our communities• Re/invest in the education and training of Art experts- Applied Arts Facilitators, Arts Educators, and Arts Therapists- committed to ethical education through the arts
