Madibeng, we are tired of not having water in our taps!

Madibeng Municipality - URGENT intervention needed

The community of Kosmos / Schoemansville & Melodie (who receive water from Madibeng, from the Schoemansville & Kommando Nek reservoirs) have decided out of desperation to make our plea to Madibeng public.

We are constantly under threat of not having water for several hours at a time, and sometimes for days. We have been and are all paying exorbitant rates and taxes every month to Madibeng with no service, maintenance or upgrading of the old infrastructure our town carries. We have old water pipes bursting everyday, draining reservoirs. If it is not pipes bursting, it is a problem with one of the pumps at the raw water extraction site, with no back up pump or plan. If it is not at the raw water extraction point, then the water purification plant in Schoemansville can't distribute water because of equipment failing, or the plant has to prioritise one reservoir over another reservoir, by swithing off one distribution pump to a reservoir to boost levels of other reservoir.

Once leaks in our areas are repaired, we are left with with a heap of tar, sand and sometimes pavement bricks, as the areas "repaired" are not closed and neatened back to its previous state. The maintenance team at Madibeng tries their best, with what they have at hand but we have reached a point where our water line infrastructure need to be replaced as clamps have now become temporaty fixes. Our councillors are trying their best to report and escalate problems, but it often comes across as if they have to beg to get something done.

We want to know how Madibeng can approve new developments when our current infrastrucure cannot even keep up with daily supply and demand.

We also need Madibengs assistance to declare the Schoemansville Water plant and the respective reservoirs as an Essential Service in order for it not to be switched off during loadshedding, and our reservoirs loosing capacity during loadshedding.
