An open letter from the Lebanese people to the
United Nations

In 1979, Iran declared the “International Quds Day” celebrated on the last Friday of the month of Ramadan. On this occasion, on May 22, 2020, Hezbollah’s Secretary General Sayed Hassan Nasrallah delivered a speech in which he declared: “Our real battle is against the United States of America.”

What is important to us as Lebanese people is to state that these words do not reflect our aspirations and contradict our national orientations and our ambition to live in peace and have the right to maintain international relations.

Hezbollah, by forging an alliance with the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM), has brought to the recent presidential election President Aoun, while in return the FPM provided the Christian cover to Hezbollah’s arsenal. Through this common interests, Hezbollah has completely controlled the decision of peace and war in Lebanon, violating Lebanon’s sovereignty, risking our interests as Lebanese, imposing on us and engaging in proxy wars through a military arsenal that we the people are unable to confront.

In face of this new escalatory rhetoric which incites onto new wars, and given the gravity of the situation, we call, through the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Antonio Guterres, for the immediate and full implementation of the Security Council resolutions 1559 – 1680 – 1701 that require the disarmament of all armed groups in Lebanon including Hezbollah’s and handing them over to the Lebanese army.
This letter is to inform you of our true position concerning this issue.

سنة 1979 أعلنت أيران "يوماً عالمياً للقدس" على أن يتم الاحتفال به في آخر يوم جمعة من شهر رمضان المبارك. وفي هذه المناسبة، القى الأمين العام لحزب الله السيد حسن نصرألله خطاباً بتاريخ 22 أيار 2020 أكّد من خلاله أن معركته الحقيقية هي بمواجهة الولايات المتحدة الأميركية.

ما يهمّنا كشعب لبناني، أن نعلن بأن هذا الكلام لا يعكس تطلعاتنا ويتعارض مع توجهاتنا الوطنية ومع طموحنا للعيش بسلام والحفاظ على علاقات ممتازة مع كافة دول العالم.

ان حزب الله الذي نسج تحالفاً مع التيار الوطني الحر، أوصل رئيس التيّار الى سدّة رئاسة الجمهورية مقابل ضمان غطاء مسيحي لسلاحه. من خلال هذه المصلحة المشتركة، أكمل الحزب سيطرته على قرار السلم والحرب منتهكاً سيادة لبنان ومغامراً بمصالحنا كلبنانيين عبر فرضه الحروب علينا داخل وخارج لبنان من خلال ترسانة عسكرية نقف نحن الشعب عاجزون عن مواجهتها.

أمام كلام أمين حزب الله الذي يحرّض على حروب جديدة ونظراً لخطورة الوضع رأينا أن نتوجه اليكم عبر أمين عام الأمم المتحدة السيد أنطونيو غوتيريش راجين منكم انقاذ لبنان من خلال العمل الجدّي والفوري في تطبيق قرارات مجلس الأمن 1559 – 1680 – 1701 والتي تدعو بوضوح إلى حل ونزع سلاح جميع الميليشيات اللبنانية وغير اللبنانية الموجودة على الأراضي اللبنانية بما في ذلك سلاح حزب الله، وتسليمها للجيش اللبناني.

من هنا، لقد توجّب علينا ان نعلمكم برأينا.
