Petition to oppose building a secondary school erf 419 maquard street the reeds
I, as a concerned resident and stakeholder, hereby formally object to the proposed construction of a secondary school on the designated wetland land adjacent to our residential complex. The development poses several environmental, social, and economic threats that will severely impact the quality of life of current residents and the surrounding community.
1. Destruction of the Wetland and Environmental Impact The proposed site is a designated wetland that serves as a crucial ecological feature. The destruction of this area would lead to: Loss of natural flood control, increasing the risk of flooding in nearby properties. Destruction of wildlife habitats, affecting biodiversity and ecosystem balance. Disruption of groundwater recharge, which could negatively impact water availability and quality in the area.
2. Violation of Residents' Rights The residents of the neighboring complex (Gonessa) have the right to a peaceful and healthy living environment. The establishment of a school in this location: Infringes upon our right to a clean and sustainable environment. Affects our right to enjoy and benefit from our property without excessive noise and disruption. Potentially violates planning and zoning regulations designed to protect residential areas from incompatible developments, No communiaction was ever done to them before the notice of building, procedures missed and irregular.
3. Increased Traffic Congestion and Safety Risks The proposed site is located along an already congested road that struggles to accommodate current traffic volumes. Adding a secondary school will result in: A significant increase in daily traffic, including buses, private vehicles, and pedestrians, further worsening congestion. Increased risks of accidents involving schoolchildren, residents, and motorists due to the high traffic volume. Delays for emergency services, as traffic congestion could obstruct access for ambulances, fire trucks, and law enforcement.
4. Decrease in Property Value and Livability The presence of a secondary school in such close proximity to a residential complex will negatively affect property values due to: Increased noise levels, making the area less desirable for potential buyers or tenants. Overcrowding and lack of privacy, as residents will be forced to live near a high-traffic, high-activity zone. Increased air pollution and dust from construction and school activities, reducing overall living conditions.
5.Noise and Dust Pollution : The construction process will generate excessive dust, noise, and vibration, creating an unhealthy and disruptive living environment for residents. Long-term, the operation of the school itself will contribute to: Continuous noise pollution from students, school bells, sports events, and public gatherings, disrupting the peace and quiet of the residential area. Additional dust and air pollution from the increased movement of vehicles, affecting air quality and potentially worsening respiratory conditions for residents.
Conclusion For the above reasons, I strongly urge the relevant authorities to reconsider the proposed construction of the secondary school on this site. Alternative locations should be explored that do not pose such significant environmental, social, and economic risks. The well-being of residents, the sustainability of the environment, and responsible urban planning should be prioritized in making this decision.
Sincerely Miss M.D. Alpaugh
