Protect St George & Prince Tadros Church

IMPORTANT INTRODUCTORY NOTE

Firstly, if you receive this petition and are not a member of the congregation of St George & Prince Tadros who attends or contributes to the church, we respectfully advise, this matter does not affect you or your children, please do not participate. This petition is intended solely for our congregation to allow them to have a say (be that supportive or otherwise). Please do not read any further. Thank You and God Bless.

To those who support this petition – thank you for your courage and honesty. Please be reminded that nothing should impact the peace and unity of our congregation and we should not have any negative reactions towards those who disagree with us. First and foremost, we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. 

To those who disagree with this petition– we respect your opinion, please respect ours. We all have an equal right to voice our opinion regarding the future of our church. As per above,  foremost, we are all brothers and sisters in Christ.   

For the undecided – If you GENUINELY believe the return of Father Georgious will have absolutely no negative impact on our church, then God’s peace be with you. However, there are many members of our congregation who passively want peace and therefore do not want to get involved. They say “it’s not my problem”, “what can I do” or “ I don’t want to cause problems”.  To these people, let us reflect on the period under the pastorship of Fr Georgious; how much of it was spent in the peace that you so earnestly desire? How often was there people leaving the church, screaming and fights at church which did not encourage or teach others to respect the house of God. We have come a long way since then, church is now a place of peace, the youth and Sunday school service is growing and the congregation is thriving in spirituality.  

With this in mind, if you want to keep your peace you must speak up now. Being silent in the face of adversity is not the way of the Coptic faith. For centuries, our forefathers have spoken up to protect the beauty and essence of Coptic Orthodoxy. Following their path, we must be strong and ensure our children have a church to come to that is peaceful and do not turn away. In Australia, if you leave the church, there are so many options for you to still be called a “Christian” but in a heretic denomination. This is dangerous for our children and the next generations. Therefore, if we want to ensure that we have a church which our children love, not one that they see as filled with problems as it was in the past, we must speak up.  

Final Note A text was sent to the Bishop on Sunday night 18/12 informing him that we would be raising our concerns with the community and we will be objecting (peacefully) to the return of Fr Georgious, to keep the peace our church developed following the departure of Fr Georgious. Up to the time this petition has gone live as at Friday 23/12, no response has been received from his Grace. As such, this petition will be sent to the Pope on Thursday 29th Dec. It is of the utmost importance that we act with urgency. Therefore, if you want to sign, please ensure you do this by ًWednesday 28th Dec.

THE PETITION

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” Matthew 5:16

“In all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you” Titus 2: 7-8

“Having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation” 1 Peter 2:12

“Be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit,[a] in faith, in purity” 1 Timothy 4:12

Your Holiness Pope Tawadros II,

The verses above demonstrate a core of our faith as Christians and Christs calling to us. That we, and especially our leaders must role model behaviour which calls people to the church leading to their love of Christianity.  

We are deeply concerned as during the period 2002 to 2014, Fr Georgious' did not demonstrate the ability to emulate and apply the positive role model behaviours called for in the verses above. In the past, our church has experienced the negative impacts of this. Perhaps he could be more successful in a different cultural setting, but during his ministry at St George Liverpool there was a lot of screaming, fighting, aggression, and many people leaving, who thanks to God started returning after the departure of Fr Georgious. 

There was no consultation with the Church Committee or congregation when the decision was made to return Fr. Georgious to our Church. Rather, it was a directive from the Bishop. We were told that Fr. Georgious wishes to return to Australia for the wellbeing of his family. What about the many families who are also concerned for wellbeing of their children and the leadership of their church. The wellbeing and spiritual growth of our children are equally as important as his. Therefore, why should we have something imposed on us which is detrimental to the best interest of the spiritual growth of our children. The same way he is endeavouring to attain what he thinks is best for his family, we also are respectfully speaking up for what is in the best interests of our families. In doing so, we request that our Bishop does not use the threat of religious punishment to supress our voices, which are raised in a peaceful manner and out of genuine concern and love for our church.

This world has enough troubles, if we the undersigned cannot come to church to seek peace and spirituality, then where else can we go? We want our children to look up to our Priests as strong positive role models, so that they may want to follow their example, love the church and remain in it. In addition to children, the adults and young families need love, and strong role models. Unfortunately some did not feel this during Fr. Georgious’s service.

For the last 18 months, we have experienced peace, joy and stability within church and have loved every minute of it. The Sunday School service is thriving, people are returning  and above all, the church has restored its rightful place where the highest example of Christian values is demonstrated.

Whilst we do not agree with his ways, we still respect Father Georgious and are simply peacefully voicing our opinion. His ways may suit others, but they do not suit us (the undersigned) and our children.  As such, we trust your own acumen to reconsider the reinstatement of Fr Georgious to our church, bearing in mind there are many other churches in our Dioscese where he can fit in and flourish as a Priest. At the same time enabling us, the congregation of St George & Prince Tadros Church continue to enjoy the present situation. 

As much as we need a second priest, for all the reasons mentioned above, we the undersigned believe the appointment of Father Georgious is not in the best interest of our church and our children. Such an important appointment should be conducted through consultation with the congregation or at least, with the church committee.  

In conclusion, we the undersigned do not support the return of Father Georgious to St George & Prince Tadros church. For the sake of our children, and for us, we ask your Holiness to reconsider the decision to return him to our church.

مقدمة

  ان كنت لست بين رعية كنيسة الشهيد العظيم مار جرجس والامير تادرس في ضاحية ليفربول بسدني وايضاً لست احد مشتركي عضويتها وتسلمت هذا الالتماس نرجوك التغاضي عن هذا المنشور حيث انه قاصر على رعية  كنيسة الشهيد العظيم  مار جرجس والامير تادرس لدعوتهم للإدلاء برأيهم في هذا الإلتماس سواءً كان ذلك تأييداً أم غير ذلك. وانت معفى من الاستمرار في القراءة. ودمت في حفظ الرب

هام بالنسبة لمؤيدي هذا الالتماس: نشكركم لشجاعتكم وامانتكم. نرجوكم الا يتعارض هذا الالتماس مع ترابط رعيتنا وسلام كنيستنا وألا يؤثر الاعتراض السلبي  لأي طرف مع محبتنا المسيحية بعضنا البعض فحرية إبداء الرأي متاحة لنا جميعاً وعلينا ان نتذكر أننا أولاً وأخيراً جميعنا إخوة في بنوتنا لرب الكنيسة  

هام بالنسبة لمعارضي هذا الالتماس: نحترم رأيكم وبنفس المقياس نتوقع منكم احترام الرأي الآخر. حيث لكل فرد منا حق إبداء رأيه فيما يراه من مصلحة الكنيسة دون حزازيات ودون فقد الترابط المسيحي ودون فقدان محبتنا لبعضنا البعض وتكراراً لما سبق قوله: جميعنا إخوة في بنوتنا لرب الكنيسة 

.هام بالنسبة للمترددين بخصوص هذا الالتماس:  ان كنتم تؤمنون يقيناً بأن عودة الأب جورجيوس سوف لن يكون لها أي تأثير سلبي إطلاقاً بالنسبة للكنيسة نقول:  نحترم رأيكم مع سلام الرب لكم  

وهناك الفئة السلبية التي ترغب في السلام دون مشاركة؛ فلذا نسمع تعليقات بعيدة عن الإيجابية مثال "ليس مشكلتي" أو "ما باليد حيلة" او "لا اود ان أكون سبباً في مشاكل"...الخ ردنا لهؤلاء كما يلي

عودة للتأمل في فترة رعوية الأب جورجيوس: كم كانت فترة "السلام" ألذي كنتم تنشدونه  اثنا ء  رعويته؟  و  ما  مقدار  السلام الذي كنت ترغب فيه  بجدية؟ كيف  كان  الصراخ  والانقسامات  والمعارك داخل  الكنيسة التي لا تشجع  بتعليم البعض لاحترام بيت الله

والآن قد قطعنا شوطاً كبيراً:  الكنيسة الآن تتمتع بسلام واستقرار لم تعهدهما لفترة طويلة إضافة الى عودة شبابنا الى كنيستهم يمارسون نشاطهم الرياضي فرحين بانتعاشهم الروحي

إذا أخذنا في الإعتبار هذه العوامل حان الأوان وهو الآن في التعبير عن رأينا فالصمت عند المحن التي يمكن تفاديها ليس أسلوب كنيستنا. فطوال قرون مضت جاهر آباؤنا برأيهم للحفاظ على جوهر أرثوذكسيتهم القبطية. ولذا علينا نهج طريقهم للحفاظ على أبناءنا من الضياع وذلك بمحاولة كل ما في وسعنا لبقاءهم في كنيستهم وان تكون الكنيسة مشبعة روحياً وذهنياً ورياضياً لضمان عدم لجوئهم الى سبل بديلة وكلنا نعلم .... ما اكثرها. جميعها معدة للاستقبال بأذرع مفتوحة فهناك أشباه الكنائس والتي تتدعي أنها كنائس وما هي الا مجموعات هرطوقية أو البديل عند حضيض اليأس فقد الإيمان واتباع مسلك الإلحاد وجميع هذه الخيارات مأسوية حضيضها هو انتقالها للأجيال القادمة

      نحن نريد لأبنائنا كنيسة بمثابة واحة سلام ومحبة وشبع روحي يشتاقون لدخولها بفرح وليس مكان شقاق وخصام ينفرون من الاقتراب اليه ولذا نكرر:  حان الوقت وهو الآن للتعبير عن رأيكم

ختاماً : أرسلنا مذكرة لنيافة الأسقف مساء الأحد ١٨ ديسمبر ٢٠١٦ بإخطاره بأننا بالتشاور مع الرعية سنثير قلقنا وسنعترض (سلمياً) على القرار سعياً وراء دوام السلام والاستقرار اللذان بدأت الكنيسة في التمتع بهما منذ سفر الأب جورجيوس. ولحين كتابة هذا الالتماس لم نتلق اي رد من نيافته. وعليه سنقدم التماسنا الى قداسة البابا يوم  الخميس التاسع و العشرين من ديسمبر. فإذا شئتم التعبير عن رأيكم نرجوكم القيام بذلك في موعد أقصاه الثامن والعشرين من ديسمبر

قداسة البابا تاوضروس الثاني

ياابانا ويا راعينا:     مطانية لقداستكم يا راعينا على الأرض يا من باركنا الرب بمحبتك لرعيتك في العالم اجمع ويامن ميزّك الروح القدس بنظرة ثاقبة وحكمة تستنشف خلالها مشاكل وآلام قطيعك  

الآيات المذكورة تلخص في أسطر لُب سلوكياتنا المسيحية بالنسبة للراعي والرعية ونداء السيد المسيح لناباتباعها في سبيل الطريق للمسيحية السليمة خاصة بالنسبة للراعي عند دعوته للمسيحية في جو كنسي يسوده السلام والمحبة حينما يكون هو القدوة الرئيسية بالنسبة لتلك السلوكيات

نحن رعية كنيسة الشهيد العظيم مارجرجس والأمير تادرس بليفرپول، سيدني، هدفنا من بعث رسالتنا هذه إلى قداستكم هو التعبير عن قلقنا العميق عن تقصير الأب جورجيوس عن الإقتداء بهذه المُثل في  بعض  الاحيان اولا  لكي تحذو الرعية حذوه، مما نتج عنه شعور بالإحباط والسلبية من قبل الرعية

يؤسفنا ان نقول أنه خلال السنوات الممتدة من عام ٢٠٠٢ الي عام ٢٠١٤ وهي فترة رعوية الأب جورجيوس لم يحقق الهدف المنشود في إطار ما ذكر سابقاً. لأن سلوكه وموقفه فشلا في تحقيق تنمية السلام والروحانية بين الرعية. لان أسلوبه  هو الصراخ والتأنيب الجارح، مما نتج عنه ترك الكثيرين لكنيسة الشهيد العظيم مارجرجس والأمير تادرس. الاحتمال قائم ان يكون هذا الأسلوب متبعاً وناجحاً في جو تختلف حضارته عن استراليا

ويؤسفنا أيضاً انه عند إتخاذ القرار بإعادة الأب جورجيوس إلى الكنيسة لم يتم هذا بمشورة الرعية ولا بمشورة اللجنة فلقد كان قراراً مفاجئاً وبمثابة أمر , وتهديد والقرار في حد ذاته لا يمت بصلة لإنماء الروحانية أو نشاطات الكنيسة ولكن المبرر الذي قُدِّم  أن الأب جورجيوس ينبغي العودة لأستراليا مراعاة لمصلحة أسرته مما يدفعنا للتساؤل ماذا عن  الكثير من الأُسر التي لديها القلق بخصوص أُسرها تحت رعايته؟ مصلحة أبناءنا لا تقِّل اهميةً عن مصلحة أبنائه... 

لماذا يفرض على كنيستنا وضعُ سيشكُّل ضرراً لأبناءنا وللكنيسة كرعية .... فبنفس القياس الذي يسعى من اجله لمصلحة أبنائه نسعى نحن أيضاً لمصلحة أبناءنا. وننتهز  هذه  الفرصة   ونطلب  ان  اسقفنا  لا  يهددنا   بعقوبات  كنسية  ليخمد  اصواتنا  والتي  نعبر  فيها  بطريقة  سلمية عن  محبتنا  للكنيسة وخوفنا  عليها  

ياأبانا ويا راعينا:   قداستكم أول العارفين وأكثر المعانيين مما يدور في هذا العالم الذي صار مليئاً بالخوف والألم والقلق، فإن لم نجد في كنيستنا ملجئاًً وسلاماً وراحة لروحانيتنا إلى أين نذهب؟؟؟ نريد أن ينموا أبناؤنا في جو القدوة الحسنة من قبل رعاتنا.... نريدهم ان يعرفوا المسيحية الحقيقية بالقدوة الحسنة. والأمر ليس قاصراً على أبناءنا فكبارنا أيضاً محتاجون لجو صلاة يسوده المحبة والسلام.  وللاسف كثيرون  لم  يشعروا  بهذا في  فترة  خدمة  ابونا  جورجيوس

خلال الثمانية عشر شهرالماضية تمتعت كنيستنا بالسلام والفرح والاستقرار وانتعشت خدمات مدارس الأحد وعاد الشباب الغائب لنشاطه وعادت كنيستنا لوضعها بين الكنائس 

 ولذا نناشد قداستكم ونتوسل ليكم  باعادة  النظر  في  ذلك  القرار

مع ان الكنيسة فعلاً في حاجة ماسةٍ لخدمة راعٍ آخر ولكن نأمل أن يتم ذلك بمشورة الرعية واللجنة وبقدر حاجتنا هذه، نحن الموقعون أدناه لا نرى أن الأب جورجيوس هو الشخص المناسب لهذه الرسالة وإذا أُختير  سنفقد الذين  رجعوا

كلنا  ثقه  في ارشاد  الروح  القدس  لقداستكم  وفي  تظرتك  الثاقبه  وفي  خبرتكم  وهناك  الان  كنائس  هذا  عددها يمكن تعين  الاب  جورجيوس  بها ,  قد  يغير  اسلوبه  عند  تعينه  في  كنيسة  جديدة  مع  احتمال  اكتسابه  شعبية  وسط  رعية  جديدة  مع  استمتاع  كنيستنا  بوضعها  الذى  اكتسبته  خلال  السنة  والنصف  الماضية

استناداً لما سبق ذكره، نحن الموقعون أدناه لا نحبذ عودة الأب جورجيوس لكنيسة الشهيد العظيم مارجرجس والأمير   تادرس بليفرپول وذلك لمصلحة الرعية ولمصلحة أبناءنا في المقام الأول نتوسل  الي  قداستكم  اعادة  النظر  في  هذا  القرار

مع  اننا  لا  نتفق  مع  اسلوبه  ولكن  نكن  لقدس  ابونا  جورجيوس  كل  الاحترام  وبكل  هدو  وسلام نريد  ان  نوصل  راينا  .  طرقة  يمكن  يحبذها  الاخرون  ولكن نحن  واطفالنا  لا  تناسب  معنا 

مطانية  لروح  الله  القدوس  الساكن  في  قداستكم ونقبل  اياديكم  الطاهره
